Making a bespoke clay body doesn’t sit comfortably with my lack of patience. But it does satisfy my nerdy needs and it is fairly basic lab work. So it’s like ‘delayed gratification’ but with a shot of immediate buzz 😁 If I get the result I hope, it’ll be in one or more works on show at Studio87, Malta, in May 🤞

So, the Iceland itch has been scratched a little - just about enough to let me focus properly on my May exhibition 😁
This petromorphic piece was inspired by the weird and wonderful volcanic geology of Iceland. I used multiple stoneware layers to achieve a geode-like effect and overall I'm quite happy with the outcome.

It was possibly a mistake to visit Iceland. I've come back buzzing with inspiration for a new series of works based on the incredible geology and colours of the country. The new series will have to be on the back burner for a while as I concentrate on works for my upcoming exhibition. But I do need to scratch the Iceland itch a little, so watch this space 😁

It's been a super-busy time here, with much experimentation in progress. All good fun, but not much I can share at this stage. But I can share some of the things that have inspired me recently, like this door's gorgeous cracked paint. It may feature in one of my pieces... 😁

I'm not sure I got the hang of the 'slow reveal' 😁
The front image is now painted with a mix of oxides that are intended to give a 'faded black' on firing. What the eventual colour will be is another matter.
Next is adding a bit more 'distressing' detail - after all it dates from 1964. Anyone of that vintage probably knows the feeling.

I have not had much time over the past few weeks to work on my exhibition pieces, but i still managed to find the odd hour or so. These are part of a work that will be called "the need for speed". Yet to be fired. All stoneware.

Here's a thing:
my first solo exhibition is going to be at @studio87_malta , Valletta, on the 20th May 2027!!!

This is the first piece I've made that will be shown (if the kiln gods allow): stoneware 'cardboard' box with engobe and oxide detailing.
