FNL debut with my people ❤️

If Dan hadn’t made me strip the bar back and focus on technique when I first started, I probably wouldn’t have lifted the way I did last night! Every single coach at Unity played a huge part in getting me this far both mentally and physically, thank you! 🫶

No one really talks about the pressures of growing up in a Polynesian Household.

Two weeks ago I had the privilege of speaking to a group of young leaders at St Francis Catholic College.

I shared about what leadership/excellence looked like for me growing up and what it looks like now.

Growing up, I struggled to figure out what I wanted to do and who I was as a person. As Pasifika/Polynesian people not only do we carry our own names, we carry the names and sacrifices of our parents, our grandparents, and our ancestors.

Some of us are the “firsts” in our families. The first to finish school. The first to graduate. The first to “make it” and with that comes a heavy weight - one that’s rarely spoken about, but deeply felt.

Based on my own lived experience, I’ve learnt that showing up for myself is just as important as showing up for my village.

We’re often taught to do things a certain way, to be respectful, humble and selfless. But sometimes those lessons come from generations who only knew survival.

Although we should never lose sight of those who paved the way for us, we must also make space for new ways of thriving.

Today, leadership looks like showing up for myself first so that my village can reap the blessings that follow.

To move with intention and serve with a purpose.
