There are seasons in life that ask everything of you. This was one of mine. If you’ve wondered where Elephant Limbo has been, the answer isn’t simple. Somewhere between- 👉 losing years of work to a stolen phone and hacked accounts… 👉navigating an illness that changed my relationship with my own body, surgery and recovery.. 👉saying goodbye to someone deeply loved… 👉packing our lives into boxes… 👉and beginning again between Mexico and the dream of France… I found myself becoming quieter. Not because the work had stopped. But because life had become louder. For months, creating looked different. It wasn’t always paper, ink, or ribbon. Sometimes it was learning to heal. Sometimes it was showing up for my children. Sometimes it was trusting that beauty could wait while I gathered the strength to return to it. To everyone who wrote, checked in, encouraged me, continued to believe in Elephant Limbo, or simply remained here despite the silence—thank you. I have seen your kindness, even when I wasn’t able to answer it in the way I wished. I’m slowly finding my way back through messages, emails, and all the pieces that were left waiting. This season has reminded me that artistry isn’t created despite life—it is shaped by it. Elephant Limbo has never simply been about beautiful paper. It has always been about preserving the moments that remind us what it means to be alive. So this isn’t a comeback. It’s a continuation. A quieter one. A slower one. Perhaps a truer one. 📍Mérida, Yucatán —There are places that make your heart beat a little slower. @montejo495.casamuseo is one of them. Walking through these rooms feels like stepping into another century—where every carved detail, hand-painted ceiling and quiet space tells a story. Some are stories of remarkable craftsmanship and artistic ambition. Others remind us that beauty and history are rarely uncomplicated. Much of Mérida’s grand architecture was made possible during the henequén boom, an era that brought immense wealth to a handful of families while too often relying on the exploitation and displacement of Maya communities whose knowledge, labor and culture have shaped Yucatán FOR CENTURIES. Admiring these spaces also means acknowledging the people whose stories deserve to be remembered alongside them. That complexity is part of what makes this place so meaningful to me. I’ve always been drawn to objects and interiors that feel collected rather than decorated—to ornament, old-world romance, heirlooms, and the kind of craftsmanship that asks you to slow down and notice every detail. Visiting places like this reminds me why I create the way I do. If your heart skips a beat for historic homes, museums, European salons, timeless architecture, or spaces that feel rich with story… we’re probably speaking the same visual language. This is a sign to feel OK with being too much. It is okay - To ask for the gold leaf, to want to have all the things. To commission the piece that exists for beauty alone. It is SO okay to create something that won’t make sense to everyone—and was never meant to. Some people will never understand why anyone would invest in a single heirloom piece, an editorial composition, or a paper work of art. They don’t have to! Beauty has never asked for permission.
