🎙️NEW PODCAST🎙️

Two Colorado natives, five bears on a hillside, and a bear hunt that turned into an absolute adventure. In this episode of Fall Obsession Podcast, Sam is joined by Fall Obsession’s Western Regional Coordinator, @elevationangling, and Colorado hunter @dropping_hammers to recap their unforgettable 2026 Colorado bear hunt.

What started as a last-minute plan with minimal preparation quickly turned into a wild experience filled with steep shale slopes, close encounters, split-second decisions, and a whole lot of adrenaline. When Connor makes a shot on a bear and John heads up the mountain after another, things get a little complicated when they realize they may have both shot the same bear! From figuring out whose bear it was to heading back the next morning for another round, these two share the full story of a hunt neither will soon forget.

Along the way, we talk about Connor’s journey from whitetail hunting in the East to chasing elk and other big game in the mountains, the learning curve of western hunting, the value of trial and error, and why some of the best hunting memories are the ones shared with good friends.

It’s a conversation about adventure, friendship, learning as you go, and making the most of every opportunity in the outdoors. Tune in for the full story!

Bear hunt 2026. It wasn’t long after this that @dropping_hammers threw the abort mission sign at me. A year ago, rocking a bout of depression and pretty severe exhaustion I probably would have started down the hill. This year was different and despite shaking legs and having left my water with Connor I pushed on. Check out the article on @fallobsession. by @elevationangling

NEW ARTICLE ⛰️

After 33 years of hunting, fishing and guiding in Colorado, you’d think I would have a pretty good handle on black bears.

I didn’t.

When I finally drew a bear tag in 2026, I quickly learned that hunting Ursus americanus was going to be one of the most physically demanding and unpredictable hunts I’d ever experienced.

Five bears on a mountainside. Two friends. One bear that both of us shot. Multiple stalks. Steep shale, thick brush and a pack-out that nearly broke us.

And somehow, I’d do it all again tomorrow.

In the not so common first cast blast this dude made my day right out of the gate yesterday. Only the second one of these I’ve caught out of this particular lake. Tiger trout are one of the oddest, coolest, angriest fish out there. #trout #flyfishing #fallobsession by @elevationangling
