My favorite not-local-to-me yarn shop for a reason. I know tons of people love shopping online with @woolandcompany for their wide selection and free ball winding, and I also like driving out when I’m in Chicagoland to feel and see yarns in-person and chat with the staff. 📍Wool & Co. South Elgin, ~1 hour outside of Chicago - Huge selection, from the biggest brands to smaller hand-dyers. Their selection is so wide that only about 1/4 is out on the shop floor and things are rotated in based on season and demand. Anything in stock can be pulled from the warehouse and brought to examine, compare, or purchase. - Super organized with ~incredible~ name plates above every yarn that show the brand, yarn name, fiber content, WPI, gauge. - Spacious. Benefit of being deeper in the suburbs. No packed cubbies or combined piles of yarn to fall over here. - The biggest in-person selection of needle brands and notions I’ve seen - Free ball winding! - Super helpful staff - Lighting in the store is top-tier - Wool & Co has knitting groups and classes! There was even a knitting circle going when I stopped in. My first WIP Wednesday 🥹. This past week I reworked the sleeve cuffs 3 times to decide on the right length and decreases. I used to love knitting as a kid and would even bring it to school during 5th grade. That year, I taught my 5th grade teacher how to knit during recesses. But I never got around to picking it up again once I went to university, until an irresistible urge over the past holidays had me pulling out my childhood knitting needles. I’d never done anything but rectangular scarves and was intimidated by shaping. Basket weave stitch was the most advanced I got. But these days the resources available on the internet are so good that I was able to finally visualize different stitches and methods and after a short time I dove into the Step by Step sweater. Now I’m working on the Lakes Pullover by @ozetta. Knitting has been such a joy during these cold, grey winter days. #knitting #lakespullover taken in Brooklyn, New York by @elevenpointfont
