Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the magical lens werk of Mamma Elf as she has chosen to bless us once again. By the power vested in me, we proudly present to you 🦅🌎⚓️ SEMPER FIDELIS ⚓️🌎🦅 --
I was commissioned to make my favorite symbol of all time as a 50th birthday gift to a Marine. I hope my love, respect and admiration conveys for our Marines, other Service members and their families, active and retired, past and present, as this is a positively visceral build for me on a personal level. The all-welded piece is mostly steel with the exception of the stainless steel SEMPER FIDELIS banner up top. We've got a couple more photos coming later in the week. As always, I remain ever grateful for your continued support.

🦉Alfred🦉 … is a small token of my appreciation for Mama Elf’s support and sacrifices over the years as a Navy wife, and symbolic of wisdom, intelligence, and positive transition as we enter a new phase of life. I presented Alfred to her during my retirement ceremony, and thankfully, she was moved to tears. Many of the pieces utilized are sentimental in some way. For example, his beak is a metal file found in her tire during repair of a flat. Crazy right? Some of the saw blades were used in constructing her currently underway home office addition. The main body and perch are the first shovel we ever bought; I broke it this year transplanting a tree. The hand mixer legs were from our own hand mixer, which were then welded to cabinet hinges from her mother’s house. The list goes on. Thanks very kindly for your support throughout this build. ⏳Time Contraption ⏳ It's almost time to fire up the werkshop. And to say that I'm itching to get back at it would be an understatement. At our previous two headquarters, I used half of our functional 2 car garage. At our new headquarters, we had a 10'x16' werkshop built. It was energized last week, I put in some garage floor tiles, and started moving my benches and tools in. Im grateful to have my own space and have a feeling Mamma Elf is probably just as grateful to have a garage free of grinding dust 😅. Since I've been out of it for about 4 months, I'll be starting on some simple stuff within the next couple of weeks: shark teeth and a bottle opener or two. Thanks very much for staying with me while I've been stealth. And thanks to all for your patience waiting for a piece. Much more ahead thanks to all of you 🎩⚡️👊🏼 taken in Timeless by @elfwerks

🚧 Worlds Collide🦈

These saw blade teeth will be welded in at an angle away from the front teeth.

This is the first set I’ve done with backup teeth. It’s amazing to me… sharks constantly replace teeth like a conveyor belt. ⚙️

Probably time for a shark joke…

What did the shark get when she traveled to the Arctic Ocean?

Frostbite.

🚧 Worlds Collide 🦈

I’ve nearly bit off more than I can chew. 😬

Wanted to get a working finish on the set in case I needed to readdress any hidden problems before moving on to the next step.

Started with a wire wheel on a drill, then took the jaws to a bench grinder wire wheel — much more comfortable and efficient.

Used a pointed cone tungsten carbide bur on the Dremel to grind down most of the welding slag bumps.

The 2” quick change surface conditioning disc — red pad on the die grinder — is the “shark’s growl” for blending and polishing. 🙂

Next up? More teeth! (spares/secondary behind the main teeth made from the saw blade being cut toward the end of the clip)

Then… jaw hinges.

I think we’re ready to swim ahead. What are your thoughts?

One of my favorite things to do is finish a spool of welding wire mid weld (not!) 🙃😅🫠

Fortunately, 11 pounds of @bluedemon .030 wire was waiting to jump in for additional dental work.
