Getting the feel right for a groove like this takes a lot of development. I feel like I’m barely scratching the surface of making something like this sound good. I’m highly inspired by the drumming of Steve Padin from his Kindo days. That was a very formative band for me. I still listen almost everyday. The blend of funk/Jazz with Afro Cuban rhythms was something absolutely mind blowing to a 14 year old that basically only listened to post hardcore. #Drummer by @eliastexel

Okay, somewhat inspired by “L’Via” by Mars Volta. That groove hits so hard, it’s so good.

What are you working on today?

Mistakes and all. This is what practicing looks like sometimes. Here I’m practicing paradiddles within a triplet groove feel. Paradiddles are groups of four, so accenting every fourth note as the beginning of a paradiddle over a triplet groove creates some interesting moments. A nice tool to have in your back pocket for creativity. This exercise comes straight out of that book you see behind me “future sounds”. Can’t recommend that enough. Let me know if you want me to go more in depth on this concept! Have a great day everyone!

I’m here play drums, share music I love, and connect with people. So let me know if you like this track too!

Honestly, this is one of those tracks that just does it for me. It’s a beautifully crafted song, it has lyrics that tug on my heart strings for sure. It reminds me of my wife and I think those are the reasons I felt compelled to put this out there.

Thanks for what you do @dijondijon_
