President Dina Hawthorne and Vice President Thomas Silvera will be speaking at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem for Grand Rounds, where they will be presenting on anaphylaxis awareness, recognizing the signs, saving lives, and their why: their mission and purpose for The Elijah-Alavi Foundation and the impact of the collaborative work that has positively impacted the community.

They will be speaking with hospital staff, including members of the Pediatrics and Medicine teams, about recognizing, preventing, and responding to food-allergy-related anaphylaxis.

This one is especially emotional for the founders of The Elijah-Alavi Foundation.

This is more than a presentation; it’s about education, preparedness, accountability, and saving lives.

So fitting that I planned to post the new “Elijah Builds A Park” book the same day I got an email template to send to Governor Hochul for Elijah’s Law.

Both @allergy_dragon and I got copies of this sweet, joyful, imaginative book! Highly recommend to all families!

And if you aren’t on the Elijah’s Law email list, be sure to join their newsletter so you can send in your letter to get Elijah’s Law(A.9245/S.8587) signed by Governor Hochul.

Scroll to the end to see the book introduction and one of the many colorful pages! The illustrations by Ramon Mitchell, also known as Nomar, are so beautiful!

Grateful. Humbled. Honored.

Being part of the FASI-10 Summit @foodallergyscienceinitiative at the @broadinstitute was truly special. Celebrating 10 years of progress in food allergy science, research, treatment, advocacy, and innovation while being surrounded by so many incredible people working to change the future of food allergy care was an experience I will not forget.

I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to participate as a panelist and share my perspective, my journey, and the work we continue to do through the Elijah-Alavi Foundation sitting alongside these powerful voices @allergieswithmia @foodallergycounselor, Andy Hartman, and Eric Edwards.

Sometimes you don’t know where a road will take you or where the journey will lead. I never imagined the path I would be on today, but I’m grateful for the path that was chosen for me. Along the way, I found purpose, found my voice, and found a way to turn my experiences into action that can help others.

Thank you to Carlos Bosques and the entire FASI team for allowing me to be part of this incredible milestone. Here’s to the next 10 years and the work ahead. 💜💙 taken in Boston by @elijahsecho

Legislation to help protect our children with life-threatening food allergies while in childcare was more than a priority for my time in office. As a mother of a daughter and future daughter-in-law who both live with serious food allergies, this issue remains deeply personal for me. The effort I championed was a part of a larger effort drafted by our Health department and later enveloped into best practices by elected officials that championed on the state level to require better safety practices within our childcare system and was later a part of docu-drama.

May Contain: My Life shines an important light on the daily realities families face and the need for greater awareness, preparedness, and compassion. I was proud Kansas City hosted the world premiere at Union Station and helped lead the conversation around food allergy safety and inclusion.

Produced by Just Like You Films, May Contain: My Life brings audiences inside the real, everyday experiences of living with life-threatening food allergies—where a simple meal can carry serious risk. The project highlights the growing national impact of Elijah’s Law, legislation designed to strengthen food allergy safety measures in childcare settings. Advocates Dina Hawthorne and Thomas Silvera are featured for their work expanding protections nationwide following the loss of their son, Elijah. The docu-drama and virtual reality experience are available now and a vital tool in building awareness in Kansas City and nationwide. by @elijahsecho

THANK YOU NYC! ❤️

To everyone who participated in our First Annual Each One Teach One: How to Save a Life event, we want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

This was more than an event. It was a day of learning, connection, preparedness, and community. Together, we created a space where people could learn lifesaving skills, ask questions, share experiences, and walk away better prepared to respond when seconds matter.

A special thank you to all of our incredible sponsors, donors, volunteers, community partners, instructors, first responders, and everyone who showed up, participated and helped make this possible:

Thank you. Your support helped make this first annual event so meaningful for the Elijah-Alavi Foundation. Our mission has always been simple: Each One Teach One. When one person learns, they can teach another. When more people are prepared, more lives can potentially be protected.

We are already preparing for our Second Annual Each One Teach One: How to Save a Life event next year, and we’re excited to make it even bigger while continuing to build a community where preparedness is not optional.

Stay tuned for what’s coming next! ❤️

If you or your organization would like to support or sponsor next year’s event, we would love to hear from you. tsilvera@elijahalavifoundation.org

Thank you for standing with us, believing in the mission, and helping us turn awareness into action.

Written policy alone doesn’t save lives. You can have all the guidance in the world, write policy after policy, and put posters on every wall, but a law or policy by itself doesn’t save a life. What saves lives is when people understand those policies, know the practices, have the right tools readily available, and are prepared to act when an emergency happens and every second matters. When it comes to anaphylaxis, training builds that muscle memory. It helps people recognize the signs and symptoms, communicate clearly, avoid delays, and respond with confidence when it matters most.

Because when seconds matter, preparation can make the difference between life and death.
Don’t fear the device. Fear the delay. #elijahsecho by @elijahsecho
