This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating a different kind of love story. 💜One year ago, TLTC began with a mission: to develop and produce new works by artists of color while cultivating the next generation of diverse theatre artists. We believed that access, artistry, and accountability could co-exist — that it was possible to build something sustainable without compromising our values.In 12 months:58 artists supported.291 audience members.100% student completion rate.Two sold-out runs.Now we celebrate our first year — and invite you to help us build the next one.Join us Saturday, February 28th — the final day of Black History Month — for a concert celebrating new work, live music, and the voices we're building space for at C3 Manhattan in Tribeca, with performances at 2pm and 7pm.This is a curated concert featuring a killer lineup of artists from across NYC, with songs woven together alongside excerpts from new plays by TLTC collaborators Cori Diaz and Gigi Moacdieh, developed through our Liminal Salon series.Directed by TLTC Artistic Director Azudi Onyejekwe.Music directed by Alex Arlotta.Every ticket directly supports Season 2 programming and the expansion of The Ivy Initiative, our free summer conservatory for NYC high school students from historically marginalized communities.Early bird tickets are $20 through February 22nd.Tickets are on sale now. Senior Spotlight: Introducing… Elijah Martinez (He/Him). Originally based in Haverhill, Massachusetts. 🌟🎊Favorite Role: I would say Melchior and Pirate King are tied for my favorite because they both offered me something in my own personal life that have helped me to be better artists and human beings. I’m so grateful to have been granted these incredible opportunities, and I thank everyone who I’ve worked with who have let me explore these people and these worlds to their fullest potentials.Favorite CAP Memory: My favorite memory is every comedy class with Alberto Bonilla. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder than watching everyone be the silliest versions of ourselves. Also, my favorite memories are any with the people who I’m proud to call my classmates, friends, and family. This place has allowed me to cultivate a community of beautiful artists, and I am forever grateful for that.What being an artist means: The reason I became an artist is because I’ve always dreamed to tell stories of impact. Being able to amplify, uplift, and create empathy for every character that exists in the world is my mission in cultivating a world of understanding. If we are able to connect to even the “worst” among us, then we know how we can work to make this world a better place. Being an artist means it is our duty to be a liaison of vulnerability and justice to every person on this planet, not just the ones we align with. Additionally, I want to actively work to empower the voices of those who have yet to be heard, and bringing people to the table who haven’t the resources to be here. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us, you have no idea how incredible it is to have the support of other insane artists and people who just love to watch friends doing what they do best. Thank you to this amazing cohort of humans who always inspire me to work my hardest and to reach further into myself to create art that is not just cathartic and inspiring to perform for myself, but also to perform for all of you. Having been granted with this beautiful opportunity, I have discovered more about myself through Melchior, and my own perspective in everything around me. I’m inspired by his bravery to embrace every day with profound curiosity, his desire to discover what life is, and how time is truly the ultimate healer. Throughout this discovery, I’ve been motivated to reflect on my journey of who I am and what I have become in the last couple of years, and I now understand that in this chaos, there is a process, and I will submit to that process and trust that what will be, will be. As Wendla sings “Whispering”, she makes the discovery that all of life’s happenings have led her to this moment, and because of that, she wouldn’t change a thing. I am constantly inspired by this work and I will ruminate on the lyrics endlessly, as their flexible meanings hold many truths that I have found applicable in tremendously different ways. To everyone who came to see this show, I thank you for choosing to be vulnerable with us and with the others in the room. I firmly believe that the best growth in humanity is done through uncomfortable experiences that push our capabilities and test our strengths. So thank you for doing that with me, and for letting me do that as well.As Melchior says in “Those You’ve Known”, “I will read all their dreams to the stars”. I will never let my dreams die, they have brought me here, and for all of this, I am eternally grateful and privileged.
