I believe we have power over our circumstances.
And I believe our choices matter more. The truth is, I could’ve stayed down, grown bitter, blamed the world. Cursed and swore, tumbled down, and never gotten back up.

I could’ve.
I know a lot of people who would’ve.

But the race isn’t over until God says it is. And at the end of the day, we all have a choice to make—every day. To be better. To be worse. To love. To hate. To cherish. To appreciate. To grow. To weaken.

And no matter where you are right now, you always have a chance to be better.

The real question is, are you ready? And my answer is: you are.

You’ve always been.

And I guess sometimes it gets to me. When I realize I get triggered, the same way you would. I used to hate you for it, for making me feel bad when you never took the time to heal. Now I’m starting to realize that maybe healing isn’t enough. There are some types of pain that leave you with a certain fear. You’re so scared of losing yourself, of falling for a fantasy again, you’re thinking of pulling away even though every part of you tells you not to when it’s almost instinct to think to, because you’re scared.

And maybe I shouldn’t be, I know I shouldn’t be, but I’m afraid. I’m afraid of falling for someone who doesn’t exist.

And sometimes I ponder, how lucky we are when we finally meet someone good—how bad it could get if you allow yourself to get close to them, and they leave.

Allowing someone in requires vulnerability because the strongest foothold you’ll ever have is your own.

The ground can’t shake when you’re stable, and I haven’t encountered stability anywhere else besides inside.

I wonder what it feels like…to finally feel safe in an embrace that isn’t my own 🍂

What if I’ll never forget it? What if happiness is harder to accept when your palms still aren’t washed? dirtied from years of playing in the mud. I was always told not to, that you can get hurt when you do, that people who say they’ll stay, leave, and the ones who act like they’ll stay, do. I’m so miserable without writing but what if I’m less miserable without a love everyone strives for? You all want a Disney kind of love you all want a Disney kind of love, I want it too, my head is still bruised from trying to reach a world I can’t reach through a screen.

Phew I don’t think I ever met someone who described me as sad. You honestly couldn’t see it anyways and not that I am, because I’m not. But sometimes you go through things that are hard to erase. You heal so that the next person who comes in won’t have to deal with the damage you gulped for too long. And maybe they won’t ever find out what you’ve been through, and maybe it’s better off that way.

I rather you touch my joy and feel my warmth than learn what I’ve endured. Because what if you look too deeply, and you don’t like what you see? What if I empty myself a little too much, and I don’t like what I see?

They say we don’t feel pain once we die. But who would we be without those extremities? What would life mean without both joy and pain?

Faith says darkness is only the absence of light, is pain only the absence of joy? I ask, can they coexist, and if they can, have they?

Can I be both happy and sad? I probably have been. There are a lot of cans to open when you reminisce, and most are better left shut.

I just need to remember, I just need to remember.

I’ve had this one sitting inside me for a while. To be honest, things have gotten so quiet I don’t miss the constant doubting and feeling half-empty. I didn’t ever know how good it would feel to feel this full until I started feeling it this year. I’m closer to who I am than I’ve ever been and if only you knew how happy that truly makes me ❤️

I think we’re all warriors, and we’ve all strayed away one way or another. Sometimes, we spend years chasing something we’re so firm to believe will heal us or make us feel finally full. But most of the answers we seek were always tucked inside of us. True healing can’t be found within a sea of people, within the arms of someone else, or within the embraces of familiar faces. True healing can only be found within ❤️
