i’ve known @elikem_logan since we were at university together studying art history. we both ended up at sotheby’s—him in african modern and contemporary art, me in books and manuscripts—and now, rather wonderfully, we’re working together again at @joopiterofficial. today we’re announcing the contemporary take: black vanguard, a sale i’ve had so much fun developing together with elikem and the team, bringing his perspective and expertise into joopiter for the first time. it brings together artists from africa and the african diaspora whose work is helping shape the global contemporary conversation right now. featuring works by slawn, samuel ross, abdoulaye konaté, nina chanel abney, che lovelace, salah elmur, and soldier, it spans painting, textiles, and photography, with so much energy, conviction, and creativity running through it. link in bio, and a few highlights shared here. 💛💛💛 by @elikem_logan

My review of “Nigerian Modernism: Art and Independence,” the landmark exhibition at Tate. I argue that while the show does not conclusively present a thesis on modernism, it decisively re-centres Nigeria in the history of modern art. Read the full text via the link in bio. by @elikem_logan
