Day 20: Hat Yai to KL
Total Distance: 530 km
Saddle time: 6 hrs 32 mins

What's hilarious was the entire 7000+km we were riding throughout Thailand over 20 days, we have not witnessed any motorvehicle accidents but maybe just light bumping into from one car into the other. I guess we were lucky. However, just under 30 minutes of crossing the Thai border into Malaysia, boom, an accident on our highway which caused a really bad traffic congestion.

I'm not sure if it's because we were riding outside of cities but we did notice one thing about most Thai drivers, they're very relaxed. Rarely any speeding. Yes there are the occasional speeders but they were patient speeders! Whenever someone was lane hogging, the speeders don't tailgate, flash furiously, or honk. They just close the gap, check if the left is clear, and overtake from the left! The lane hogger too, aware of the left-side overtaking, maintains his/her course. I guess one thing we need to learn from the Thais is to relax while driving, keep your egos in your glovebox, and drive with patience.... Ok maybe not overtake from the left, lane hoggers just give way and be aware of your surroundings.

Day 20 marked the end of our tour in Thailand. Every second, every sweat, every mishap, and every meter travelled made this trip worth it. While it's my 2nd time doing this, the experience was certainly different. Nothing could've stopped me on taking my dear wife on the SEA biker's pilgrimage route. Even as time progresses and my memories fade, i've Instagram to thank for for storing out photos and memories 🤣 by @elin.koay

Day 19: Hat Yai
Total Distance: 59 km
Saddle time: 2 hrs 7 mins

2 hours just for 59 km? That's cos there are numerous traffic lights that took forever 😵‍💫 Riding through the town, we saw the aftermath that the recent flood left behind. While many have resumed business, there were some shopkeepers who had to sell their wares on the sidewalk as the interior was still f*cked. A tiny handful of shops still had their shutters down, I'm assuming they could not recover from the devastation of the floods. Big chain / franchise brands had deep pockets to conduct major renovations to their shops. While we did not witness the peak of destruction left in the flood's wake, the recovery process was also humbling to us that nature can simply give and take as and when it pleases.

In fact, we were on the verge of being submerged by flood on Day 2! The B&B's owner told us there was going to be a 'scheduled' flooding the day after we check out due to dam doors opening. We were super lucky.

We probably wouldn't be spending too much time in Hat Yai town if it not for us looking for service centres to adjust the chains on Elin's bike. We arrived at Kawasaki who told us that their service centre is closed because the governmet extended the New Year's public holiday to boost domestic tourism. We then stopped by Honda (small wing) of which they directed us to Honda Big Wing instead. At Big Wing, the workshop was open but they turned us away because Elin was riding a Kawasaki instead. We didn't mind paying for the 5 minute job but i guess they thought Kawas arent worth working on! We then ended up going to Triumph Hat Yai because as far as I recall, they had super friendly and accommodating staff! However, to our dismay, when we arrived, Triumph Hat Yai was closed. Thought it was because of New Year's holiday but I peered inside and saw the place badly damaged from the flood... I guess they were still in recovery mode...

The resort we stayed in was nothing short of relaxing! The ride up however wasn't relaxing! Daunting in fact. by @elin.koay

Day 18: Hua Hin - Hat Yai
Total distance: 771km
Saddle time: 8hrs 6mins

New Year's day travel from Hua Yin to Hat Yai. Googlemaps told us 10 hours but we told Googlemaps, "How about, no". Stopped by a really nice cafe called TREE TIME Cafe &Garden which is nothing short of magical! The environment, with birds, rabbits, and tortoises along with mist machine and perfect sunrays shining through fountains creating rainbows was lovely. Food we did not order too came to us, absolutely magical! They somehow botched our orders despite using Google Translate and even pointing out to the exact item on the menu WITH PICTURES. The Pad Kra Pao was good but the shrimp dish, whatever it was, wasn't. Nothing else eventful except a stop at the PTT station close to Hat Yai which was crowded. It was something like our R&R. Arriving at Khanlao was also a bit challenging. While the ride up the hill wasn't too bad, the ride up the steep incline to the parking spot was daunting at first. Then we remembered Rukthai glamping in Ban Rak Thai... that one was steeper, narrower and had a hairpin corner. Also no other roads we were on were as challenging as Doi Inthanon's. Caught us by surprise too that one did. Maybe conquer Chonburi's infamous steep incline one day? by @elin.koay
