finally posting some crochet work to this account!! this was an exchange with @kpcclay, and my first larger-scale filet crochet piece. as a notoriously slow crocheter this took me quite some time, but it turned out beautifully! i haven’t photographed it hanging as intended, but enjoy the blocking & process photos

a few more process shots and sketches from “Musings of a Nebula” ! this piece almost looked very different in quite a few ways: two additional plates, beading rather than suspended text, viscosity printing - the whole gamut. i’m quite happy with how the print turned out, but i still like looking back through its evolution by @elina.m.press

I have the honor of saying that this print is part of MICA’s Bicentennial alumni collection! This print felt like a check-in with my print practice as I begin my third year post-grad. It is a return to form in many ways, but also a departure from my previous work. This print features my first copper plates in four years, as well as sewn elements that are new to my print practice. It’s a doozy to be sure, but I’m quite proud of how it turned out!

Method - The blue portion of this print was created by screen printing a layer of gold ink, then printing a copper relief plate on top of it. It created this metallic blue tone where the two inks interact, while keeping the linework of the copper a bright gold.

Content - This piece charts some of my own tattoos into a constellation. The piece also includes a vertical cipher that I often use in my own personal notes.

Method - I wanted to suspend pieces of text within a void on the page. I often work with sparse, floating text on the pages of my artist books, and I wanted to bring an adapted version of that into this print. I removed a portion of the paper, sewed a blanket stitch around its border, and sewed threads across the void before attaching pieces of lead-set text.

Method - The bottom portion of this piece is a wide, short copper plate. It echoes the markings in the blue portion of the print, and shares the same ink.

after long last, i've finally made the first print from this absolutely precious typeface!!! i've spent months trying to decide the perfect text to christen it, but i finally put my hands back in motion and set this little phrase. it prints absolutely beautifully, and i'm so excited to use this type more!!
