๐™‰๐™ค(๐™ฌ) ๐™Ž๐™๐™ค๐™ฌ(๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ) โ€“ Evelyne Schoofs, Mayra Stacher, Martha Battistella, Puck van der Poel, Leonie Verbeeck, Kaat Deceuninck, Louise Dewitte, Billie Vermandere
24 March 2026

๐˜๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ด ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜”๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜บ by Evelyne Schoofs explores the traces after the loss of loved ones. The work stems from fragments of memory passed on from generation to generation, and reflects on how time distorts, fades, and reshapes memory.

๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ by Mayra Stacher is a sculpture of bent pinewood, nylon tights, and a metal pin. The carved wood forms a skeletal structure, while stretched tights add soft, flesh-like volume, balancing tension between hardness and softness.

๐˜ˆ๐˜ณ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ท๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜›๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ฆ๐˜ด by Martha Battistella engages with textile as a living archive shaped by personal and cultural memory. Drawing from a family archive and experiences between Belgiumโ€“Italy, she weaves together textile, video, and poetry into a layered reflection on identity, material, and remembrance.

Puck van der Poel transforms the novel East of Eden (1952) through the repetitive act of underlining every sentence in grey pencil, except one: โ€œThou mayest,โ€ a phrase tied to a mistranslation and misinterpretation of a biblical passage.

If shells protect sea creatures, bark protects trees, thorns protect roses, and spines protect cacti, what protects humans? Inspired by natureโ€™s protective systems, ๐˜‰๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ by Leonie Verbeeck reflects on human strategies of protection.

In the absence of a preserved personal heritage, Kaat Deceuninckโ€™s work becomes a speculative reconstruction, an attempt to invent and embody a lineage through making. She approaches weaving as an attentive practice of remembering.

๐˜“๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ is part of an ongoing series in which Louis Dewitte transforms ladyfingers into playful, shifting bodies.

๐˜‘๐˜ฐ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ด by Billie Vermandere is a modular system of knitted pieces that can be reconfigured for different functions. A self-developed loop structure keeps the work flexible, adaptable, and in constant transformation.

Thanks to all who generously showed their work in Het Paviljoen! โ‹†ห™โŸก

When it comes to art, the sun is both life-giving and destructive. (Sun)light illuminates, reveals, and animates color, but also fades pigments, weakens fibers, cracks varnish, and slowly alters materials through UV radiation. Every time an artwork is exhibited, it fulfills its purpose to be seen, yet it is exposed to these damaging conditions. ๐˜•๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜•๐˜ฆ๐˜ธ ๐˜œ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜š๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ takes this paradox as its point of departure, placing exposure at the center of the exhibitionโ€™s narrative. For three weeks, artworks from the depot of the Collection Flemish Community are invited to sunbathe at TICK TACK.

A Bookshelf of Oneโ€™s Own - Now on view until 23.01.2026 at the 1Mยณ vitrine curated by Eline Adriaensen.

A bookshelf is often personal, yet it carries cultural weight and authority. In this 1Mยณ space, it becomes a site of collective visibility. It reminds us that both knowledge and the spaces that it holds must be continually rethought and reclaimed.
Fiction here marks the realm of possibility. The shelf is never fixed; it shifts over time, allowing what is revealed and what is hidden to remain in constant dialogue. It becomes a living archive shaped by
curiosity, care, and movement.
Unfold the bibliography next to the vitrine to discover the selection and watch the books reconfigure over the weeks: spines turning, pages opening, titles appearing and disappearing.

Since 2015, 1Mยณ has served as an exhibition space dedicated to artistsโ€™ books from the collection of Kunstenbibliotheek. A guest curator is invited to make a selection and present it in the space of 1Mยณ.

Eline Adriaensen is an architect based in Antwerp and Ghent. She holds a Masterโ€™s degree in Architecture from the University of Antwerp, complemented by an exchange programme at the UmeaฬŠ School of Architecture in Sweden.
At the moment, she is participating in the Curatorial Studies postgraduate programme at KASK & Conservatorium.

With books from Sara Mackillop, Pati Hill, Sofia Masini, Annette Messager, Camille Carbonaro, Batia Suter, Pipilotti Rist, Sophie Calle, Carla Williams, Megan Francis Sullivan, Elisabeth Tonnard, Katja Mater, Jenny Holzer, Marlene Dumas, Ines Claus, Rachel Zoller, Lena C. Emery, Lore Smolders, Heidi Hinrichs, Warja Lavater, Susanne Kriemann, Nora Turato, Barbara Kruger, Emma Kunz, Ruth van Beek, Marie Joseฬ Burki, Dora Diamant, Marge Monko, Eva Hesse, Astrid Seme, Rosa Smalen, Sophie Nys, Arian Christiaens, Agneฬ€s Varda, Dorothy Iannone, Marina Abramovicฬ, Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, Else Lagerspetz & Loore Sundja and more!

Meet Saloua Aalillou & Eline Adriaensen. They will make new work as Bosacademie residents. We asked them what's their favorite time of the day to create?

'Our creative rhythms differ, but that's what makes them complementary. Saloua prefers working in the early morning, when the summer sun gives her energy, she follows that feeling. On grey days, that moment sometimes shifts to the evening. Eline, on the other hand, is an evening person: when silence settles and darkness falls, she finds space to think and experiment. As a duo, this creates a kind of chain reaction: what one of us starts, the other carries forward. During the day, our paths cross to discuss, align, or create and think together. This way, the work keeps flowing, at the pace of our own rhythm, with room for each of our flows and individuality.'

Showtime? During Vruchtbare Grond!
