POSTS STORIES REELS

I can’t quite believe we’re already at the penultimate performance of Un Ballo in Maschera tonight.

It’s been such a joy getting to know Amelia and to share the stage with such an incredible cast, chorus, orchestra and creative team. Every performance has revealed something new, and I’ll miss this production more than I can say.

If you’ve been thinking of coming, there are just two chances left to catch us at @operahollandpark, tonight and our final performance on Friday.

Thanks for all the support 🤗

See you there ❤️

I’ve been thinking a lot about what time adds to an artist.

In opera, we spend years developing our voices. But alongside that, something else is quietly developing too.

Our artistic identity. Our perspective. Our confidence. Our ability to trust our instincts and tell stories with greater honesty.

Some roles ask for more than technical skill. They ask for emotional depth, resilience and a voice that has had time to grow into itself. Those things can’t be rushed.

It’s no coincidence that many of the sopranos leading the world’s major opera houses today are in this stage of their careers. Singers such as @asmikgrigorianofficial, @sondraradvanovsky, @lisedavidsen, @natalya_romaniw and @sonyayoncheva continue to demonstrate the extraordinary artistry, vocal maturity and dramatic depth that years of experience can bring.

That’s why I wanted to celebrate mid-career artists.

Not because they’re “better” than younger artists, but because they bring something uniquely their own. Just as emerging artists bring freshness and possibility, artists further along in their careers bring years of artistry, curiosity and lived experience.

Opera is at its richest when artists at every stage of life are represented on our stages.

Mid-age is magical 🧙

I’d love to know...what do you think time adds to an artist?

Amelia... how are we already at opening night?

I’ve hardly slept these past few weeks because I’ve become completely obsessed with understanding you. Learning how you think, what motivates you, and why you always put others first.

I feel like every performance will reveal another layer of your soul, but tonight I simply want to thank you for allowing me to escape and become the dreamer and creative spirit you truly are.

Talking of dreamers... @rodulagaitanou, thank you for trusting me, for giving me the space to create, and for taking me to otherworldly realms with Amelia. She’s connected to the two of us... half Leo, half Scorpio! What a woman.

Wishing everyone on and off stage a tremendous opening night. What a team we have. I feel so very fortunate to be back at @operahollandpark. It’s going to be a great night.

See you afterwards for a seriously spicy margarita! 🌶️🍸

In bocca al lupo!!

Congratulations to soprano Elin Pritchard and conductor Michael Papadopoulos on a thrilling opening night of Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera at Opera Holland Park on Saturday.

Elin sings Amelia in Rodula Gaitanou’s production, with Michael conducting the City of London Sinfonia — and the critics agree: four stars from The Stage, Bachtrack and Opera Now.

The second performance is tonight, and the run continues until 7 August. Don’t miss it!

Let’s talk about gender disparity in opera.

@nationaloperastudio recently shared application statistics for its 2026/27 Young Artist Programme. Of the 532 singers who applied, 77% were female voice types.

At the same time, looking across the world’s 20 most performed operas, only around 32% of roles are written for female voices.

These are two different datasets and they don’t tell the whole story. But I do think they raise some interesting questions about opportunity, access and the realities of building a career as a female singer.

As much as transparency around these figures is important, I find myself wondering what happens next.

What responsibility do colleges, opera companies and the wider industry have when these imbalances are so clearly visible?

I’d genuinely be interested to hear other people’s thoughts.

Late to the party for this one Goodbye Elisabetta 🥰 what a complete joy it has been @grangeparkopera . To all of the team on and off stage I adore you, thank you for inspiring me, lifting me and keeping me happy, hydrated and entertained! It's been wild.... and I THINK there could be "return of Elisabetta" at some point in the near future. 🤗🤩 Here are some of my highlights over the past month. This role has been special and so dear to me, I feel great sadness to say goodbye .. but it shouldn't be too long before we reunite ! Over and out 🥳 by @elinpritchardsoprano

Things I wish I’d been introduced to when I was studying. So much of what we’re taught focuses on the voice itself, but not always on how to actually sustain yourself in the work long term.

Over time, and mostly through experience (and a fair bit of trial and error), I’ve found a few things that have made a huge difference to how I navigate this wild and wonderful job.

Understanding the nervous system has been a big one for me. Learning how to regulate it before, during and after performances has genuinely changed how I experience singing and my overall health and wellbeing. If you’re curious about it, @healthwithholland has amazing resources and info along with a fantastic reset course that I completed last autumn which is life changing!

Food is not the enemy. Eating regularly and properly, with enough protein, fats, fibre and carbs, has made a huge difference to my energy and overall wellbeing. I find eating on show days difficult but consistency is the key otherwise my dopamine seeking side will hit. Life is far too short not to eat a big slab of buttery sourdough.

Hydration was another learning curve. I used to overdo it, constantly drinking water and still feeling depleted. Being a bit more intentional with hydration - including adding minerals, has helped far more than just drinking more. A small thing I’ve found helpful is a little Celtic salt under the tongue before drinking, which seems to make a real difference.

And alongside all of that, learning to hold onto a sense of artistic integrity when you’re surrounded by different opinions, ideas and offers. Knowing when something doesn’t align, whether that’s creatively or financially, and having the confidence to step away from it.

These have been some of the most useful shifts for me so far. There are some brilliant people sharing helpful work in this space:

Penultimate performance of Don Carlo today.

What a journey this has been. It’s been such a privilege to revisit Elisabetta, work alongside such an incredible cast and creative team, and perform this beautiful score night after night.

Here’s a little collection of some of the wonderful reviews the production has received so far. Thank you to everyone who’s come to see us and shared such kind words.

One more performance to go! ❤️

Tonight marks the final performance of Verdi’s Don Carlo at Grange Park Opera. Congratulations to Elin Pritchard, Gianluca Marcianò, and Otar Jorjikia on a remarkable run of this epic masterpiece.

Pritchard’s Elisabeth was praised for “a performance of remarkable poise”, her singing combining “elegance with emotional depth”, while Jorjikia brought “a very strongly voiced Don Carlo” to the title role. On the podium, Gianluca Marcianò was commended for being “unfailingly sensitive to Verdi’s dark colouring”, deftly “outlining expressive opportunities for intimacy and suggesting grandeur”.
