Rhodes College Athletics is proud to announce that senior men’s soccer captain Eli Pilcher has been named the 2025 Southern Athletic Association Man of the Year.
A four-year starter and team leader, Eli’s impact on Rhodes extends far beyond the field. With a double major in Economics and Philosophy, national academic honors, and service as SAAC President, he has set the standard for excellence in competition, in the classroom, and in the community.
Congratulations to Eli on this well-deserved recognition.

When I was a kid I made myself a promise: that I would never fail due to something I could control. Growing up I didn’t have to look far to see that some things demanded more effort from myself to get the same results as others. After learning this, I told myself that I would always give 100% at everything and, if I failed, I couldn’t blame myself. It wasn’t meant to be for me. If you know me, this will make sense. In how I carry myself, go about my life, in everything I do. In the classroom, in my relationships, and on the field I try my best to keep my promise. To always give it my all. And there is no greater example of this than my love for this game. I gave it everything: my time for study, my effort for extra training, my passion for watching and playing. I’m happy to say that I gave it 100% for all that I accomplished. The championships, the development, the leadership, the growth… And for all that I didn’t accomplish, I will walk away with little regrets, knowing that I offered everything I had to be where I am. To become what I have. I hope to continue this promise, to dedicate myself in all that I do and take what I’ve learned along the way.

I love this game and I couldn’t be more grateful for the people and places it has introduced me to so far. Thank you #2 and thank you Rhodes Soccer by @elipilcher21
