Happy to share some images from the documentary I made about Dalva.
Who opened the doors of her studio to me for several days.
Stepping into her world was a precious and intense moment, filled with colors and stories. Surrounded by her monumental four-meter-high canvases about the Amazon and her memories, you feel that her oversized brushes are her tools of resistance. A way to cry loud the urgency of protecting the trees, this forest, the Amazon. It’s a visceral work, rooted deep in her brasilian heritage.

You realize how precious it is to be surrounded by beauty, how fragile it can be. Perhaps this is what can save us, beauty, colors, art.

On est confondu, des l’abord, par une telle luxuriance. Tout est véhémence, le soleil, la lumière, les couleurs. Le bleu du ciel vibre ici plus fortement, le vert est profond et saturé, la terre rouge et grasse; nul peintre ne peut trouver sur sa palette des couleurs plus éblouissante, plus chatoyantes que celles du plumages des oiseaux ou des ailes des papillons. La nature est toujours ici au superlatif : les orages qui déchirent le ciel du grondement de leurs éclairs, les pluies qui tombent en torrents, la végétation exubérante qui en quelques mois couvre la terre de déserts verts. Mais la terre elle-même, depuis de longs siècles inviolée et pas encore poussée à produire au maximum, répond ici avec une force presque incroyable à la moindre sollicitation.
