"Hard work, persistence, and discipline is the key." ⚛️

Meet Elisa Torres, founder of @girlsinquantum.

Elisa fell in love with quantum science through curiosity, and turned that curiosity into a global community — hackathons, webinars, interviews with quantum leaders — built to make quantum education accessible to more people, especially women in STEM.

Understanding the world is the first step to changing it — and a new generation of scientists isn't waiting for tomorrow to make that change happen.

Under the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development, UNESCO is partnering with the ‌AXA Foundation for Human Progress and @nature_the_journal to put this generation in the spotlight.

Stay tuned to discover more stories.

@aiforgood Global Summit!!!🇨🇭

From quantum computing, to new developing ecosystems in emerging tech to having amazing chats with people that continue to inspire me every day. Happy to share the stage among such strong women and to keep bringing my voice on what can we do next and how can we support young entrepreneurs, local communities and educational initiatives. Merci Genève!!

Thank you for having me @technovationmad 🇪🇸

935 girls from across Spain came together to showcase 235 projects they have been building for months and some of them were only eight years old.

Girls presenting apps for children with allergies, reducing food waste, backtracking systems, and so much more.

So grateful to give a keynote on the beautiful stage of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid Auditorium, with its orchestral feel and massive space that is considered one of the largest auditoriums in Madrid.

Huge admiration to all the organizers and volunteers who made this happen, not only for the girls, but for all the families, judges, mentors, and guests involved.

# accent.set(“British”) Hello from the UK House of Lords! 🇬🇧

Had the opportunity to speak at the World Business Women Summit 2026 about the white paper on AI literacy, which I got to contribute to alongside its brilliant author, Dr. Anastassia Lauterbach, and security expert, Yaron Levi.

Now, behind the scenes, I landed at London Heathrow at 6:30am. By 10:30 I was strolling into the Palace of Westminster, running on pure excitement and a very questionable amount of airport coffee (cheers to that).

What stayed with me most was the room, full of incredible women who are business leaders, parliamentarians, and experts in their fields. We were all leaning in on the question on who gets to understand AI, question it, and help decide where it goes next?

I’m still smiling about it and proud to see the chilean flag on the table.

Oh, and as a self-proclaimed tea lover, I can officially confirm that tea and biscuits taste better in Parliament. Indeed! by @elisatdney

That’s a wrap of my 24-hour adventure at IBM Tech Summit 2026 in Mexico City! A @f1 -inspired event that brought together tech, innovation, and great people.

Such an honor to be one of the main keynote speakers. Loved sharing my perspective on the future of quantum computing and why the next generation has such an important role to play in shaping emerging technologies.

I can officially call this a successful pit stop hehe. Graciasss, México!! (Estuvo muy padre! como dicen allá) 🇲🇽 by @elisatdney

As founder and CEO of @girlsinquantum and a junior studying electrical and computer engineering at @dukeuniveristy, Elisa Torres Durney is an international champion for access to quantum education.

Since 2022, she's connected girls and students in 68 countries with free, multilingual resources on quantum science. Her advocacy has reached other STEM leaders across the globe on stages including @unitednations, @unesco, and @tedx_official.

Elisa's advice to her community is to always follow your own path.

“Especially with social media, we tend to compare ourselves a lot. Try to reflect on your own life. What do you really like to do? What is your vision?" by @elisatdney

My quantum world keeps getting bigger, and somehow feeling more like home.

Last week in Basel for the Quantum Global Summit with QAI Ventures! So happy to reconnect with the people who made my summer special, meet new faces, and have the kind of conversations you wish you had more time for.

Talking with the brilliant founders, networking with people from the quantum ecosystem, listening to the panels of experts, and to top all of that, matcha at a quantum conference? Someone really understood the assignment!! 🤗 🍵

Left with a full heart and, whoops, no social battery. I said, “I’m exhausted,” then spent the entire train ride texting everyone about how GOOD this event was.

Now back in the US for uni, and would happily do it all again! 🪅 by @elisatdney

I’m one of eleven young scientists selected for “A New Generation of Scientists“ an exhibition by @unesco in collaboration with @nature.portfolio and the @axa Foundation for Human Progress. 🥹🥹🥹

This Wednesday, I jumped on the adventure to go to Paris 🇫🇷 for a couple hours and headed to the UNESCO headquarters. To give you my perspective, I rode there by bike and saw my face on the front wall among other scientists, flags from different countries behind me, and the Eiffel Tower in the distance. Yup, crazy as it sounds. From Chile to here, with all these awesome people, it really makes me happy to share this with you all.

Had the pleasure to share alongside awesome people and the other inspiring young scientists featured in the exhibition: Emma Vogel, Callie Veelenturf, Azaria Cabrini Pickering, Chloé Dindault, Dev Karan, Meriem El Yajouri, Vusiliye Moyo, Nadim SALEEM, Ndaudika Mulundileni, and Yan Zhong.

So today I am letting myself be proud standing in an exhibition that will be on an international tour from Paris to Brussels, New York and beyond, showcasing a generation of researchers who are redefining what science looks like: more collaborative, more diverse, more connected to society, and deeply committed to the world’s most pressing challenges. Ocean conservation, neuroscience, climate adaptation, and my own small corner of it, quantum education, through @girlsinquantum by @elisatdney

The Rhein at 9 p.m. when all you can hear is people chatting in different languages, some just eating a gooddd kebab, and happy people swimming around, refreshed by the river, while a mix of music plays in the background. Some Latin American songs by artists that made me remember home. Views, memories, yummy food, wow moments, and places so beautiful that describing them almost makes them feel smaller. Recording things on Strava, getting impressed by how big the cows are (gosh they are huge) the almost neon green of the grass, and how badly I wish I could capture pictures with the same quality as my eyes. Laughs and shared moments with kindness, hopping around art galleries until you get overwhelmed by so much art around you, trying to understand art in all its different forms, opera singers with strong lungs telling stories that move you, and the art of curiosity itself, the kind that keeps you wondering what else there is to discover, and how sometimes the beauty I’m describing is not only in these views that will be treasured in my gallery, but in the people who make it all feel like home sweet home.
