Do you think rest is valued enough in your country? I’d love to hear your thoughts and where you’re from!👇🏾This is something I find myself thinking about more and more. The culture we live in, the beliefs we share, the values we collectively prioritise... these are the most important levers in determining whether we are a healthy country or a sick one.In this week’s NEW episode of my ‘Feel Better, Live More’ podcast, I’m joined by one of the world’s leading stress researchers Dr @elissa.epel . We explore what chronic stress is really doing to our biology, and the habits that can help us reverse it.Whether you struggle with overwhelm, or you suspect you’re more stressed than you realise, I know this conversation has advice you’ll want to take on board.Tune in to episode 668, OUT NOW in all the usual places 🎧 by @elissa.epel

Tag that person who should have a siesta!💤Leading stress researcher Dr @elissa.epel calls our lack of rest the hidden epidemic. And I think she’s right.I think in many ways we have lost a culture where leisure is a regular and valued part of the day. And the cost of that, at a cellular level, is far greater than most of us realise. For this conversation, I’m joined by health psychologist, Dr Elissa Epel, a professor of psychiatry and world-leading researcher on wellbeing and optimal ageing. Her research shows that chronic stress can age our immune systems by as much as 10 years, but crucially, that damage is not permanent. The right habits can activate the repair mechanisms that slow and even reverse biological ageing. And they start with decent rest.In this week’s NEW episode of my ‘Feel Better, Live More’ podcast, Elissa shares the science of deep rest and why it may be the most powerful and most overlooked tool we have for slowing biological ageing. Tune in to episode 668 🎧If you’d like to receive a direct link, simply comment “REST”👇🏾 by @elissa.epel

Jack and I left the Oslo Freedom Forum filled with inspiration and gratitude. Here we are with our wonderful friend Elissa Epel, the neuroscience researcher and author who taught a workshop with me. One of the many smart things that the Human Rights Foundation does at the Oslo conference is mix in some music, art, comedy and fun to balance the challenging work on human rights abuses and corruption in autocracies. This evening, we stood up with human rights defenders, technologists, artists and freedom fellows. We were all wearing aprons standing in front of tables covered with paper where platters of food were brought out — to eat with our hands! There were no forks or knives or spoons at the table. The menu said that in Norway, people eat the dishes seved with their hands, although i do wonder, was it a fun joke? Tell me if you’ve heard of this!#oslo #norway #oslofreedomforum2026 #humanrightsfoundation by @elissa.epel

It's no surprise Americans are stressed, but what many of us are concerned about seems to have escalated and changed. We still have the usual stressors like money, caretaking, and jobs ... but pressing social challenges like political division and the uncertain economy are reshaping people's mental health."The Strain of Stress" is a Call to Mind special — which you can now listen to both on your local public radio station AND in your favorite podcast app — that examines stress from all angles. Join host @angeladavismpr as she talks with experts about the impact of stress on our mental health and how we can manage the strain. We also hear from people about their experiences with stress and why they feel overwhelmed. Listen wherever you get your podcasts! And be sure to subscribe to Call to Mind in your feed so you don't miss future specials.Experts & Research Featured Include: - Dr. Arthur Evans (@drarthurcevans) of @apa_org- Dr. Elissa Epel (@elissa.epel) of @ucsf- Dr. Joshua Coleman (@dr.josh.coleman)- Dennis P.
