We met VANEBON at Signal!

VANEBON is a fashion label that exists within a retro-futuristic universe where glamour, fantasy, and identity converge. Drawing from themes of femininity, transformation, and self-invention, her work combines hyper-feminine silhouettes, dramatic structures, and sportswear influences to create garments that function as characters rather than clothing. Presented at London and Mexico Fashion Week and worn by artists including Björk, Rosalía, and Rina Sawayama, VANEBON continues to build immersive worlds that blur the boundaries between fashion, storytelling, and performance.

I always joke that I’m a work of art 🤣 and I guess I manifested it, because somehow, it actually happened.

Thank you, @darwin_cabrera1 , for welcoming me into your universe and for letting me be part of this incredible installation!! Thank you for giving me the space to share what it means to be a Latina immigrant and how, every single day, I try to carry my roots with pride.

Darwin, you were the first Latino I met in Belgium. I’ll always remember how we connected through that shared feeling of trying to belong while living far from home. It’s a bond that only those of us who have migrated can truly understand and simply speaking Spanish with you made me feel a little closer to home.

I hope our community continues to break the stereotypes that have been imposed on us for so long. Latinoamérica is filled with talent, creativity, and excellence, and we’re here to prove it in every space we step into.

My brother’s @pop_sin_azucar art exhibition at @15beautreillis in Paris, curated by @gcruzcr .

The first time my brother exhibited in Paris, I went to the @palaisdetokyo , then my sister and me traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux to see his work again. I realize that following his art wherever it was shown became my own way of feeling close to home, something that make me feel safe.

I can’t remember a time in my life when he wasn’t creating. He has always been making something, painting, imagining, building new worlds. Without even realizing it, he taught me how to see life with more sensitivity, to pay attention to beauty, and to find meaning in the smallest things.

Growing up watching his dedication, everything he has built, and the way he never stopped believing in his work has shaped me more than he probably knows.

There’s one thing he has always told me that has stayed with me through the years:

“Do what you love over and over again until it works.”

Seeing his work on gallery walls still moves me just as much as it did the first time. Before he was an artist I admired, he is simply my brother. And I feel incredibly lucky that the person who taught me to see the world differently has always been so close to me.

Hace un año entendí que hay encuentros que cambian silenciosamente la dirección de todo. Empecé a escribir desde otro lugar: con más intención, más obsesión por la cultura y más claridad sobre lo que significa crear.

Durante años, lo latino fue reducido o malinterpretado. Hoy estamos resignificando esa narrativa desde nuestros propios espacios, llevando nuestras raíces con orgullo y construyendo comunidad en lugares donde antes parecía imposible pertenecer.

Ser parte de esta generación de creativos latinos en Londres se siente poderoso. Y también necesario.

Jamás dejaré de perseguir mis sueños y nadie me dirá que tan alto puedo ir.

En palabras de Karla:

“Todo es posible, pero con la gente correcta que te rodea. Esa gente que te ayuda a entender la artista que eres. Donde tú estás, yo también estuve. Y te espero acá.”
