Wherever you go, old towns always feel more genuine, more welcoming and close to the heart, don't you think?

Nicosia, a true gem in the heart of the Mediterranean, is the perfect example.

Centuries-old buildings, traditional doorways and narrow streets, ruled - of course - by the cats.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else on the island.

If you listen carefully,
Every city has a story to tell.
And a voice waiting to be heard.

I used to look at this city with a closed heart and numb eyes.

But with time,
I’ve started to see it differently.
More kindly, embracing its beauty.

And hell yes, it feels good!

Culture? Rich and ever-present.
History? Layers of it.
Food? Don’t even get me started.

Nicosia gives more than you expect.
(And if you’re a cat lover, consider it a bonus 😻)

Take a walk through the old town.
Pause by the buildings. Look closely.
What stories would they tell if they could speak?

As the world’s last divided capital, let it tell you its story.

Another glimpse of the heart-warming streets of Nicosia.

You walk these streets and realise beauty isn’t always loud.

Sometimes, it’s just there — holding on.

In the worn-out tiles beneath your feet.

In the way sunlight spills across a shuttered window, like it has for decades.

There’s no need to rush here.

What shapes identity and how can we help rebuild a sense of belonging once it’s been lost?

I left yesterday's study visit to Paphos with these questions.

It was deeply thought-provoking yet emotionally difficult to process.

Displacement. Resettlement. Grief. Hope. Memories.

When I reflect on the highlights of the workshop and imagine what people have been through, I want to wrap them in a thick blanket of compassion.

And I want to tell them that they can belong anywhere they like, to anyone they love, and that if they have lost it all, they can begin again - at any age, any time.

Grateful to our organisers and facilitators for helping us feel so deeply about this place.

Last week, I attended a five-day training at the Wildlife Research Centre. Later, I realised it was the perfect time for me to be there.

Located on steep hills with limited reception, it kept me away from the disturbing news of what was happening in the world.

The cold breeze, the animals and the blue skies stopped me from constantly reaching for my phone and paralyzing myself with the news.

When I walked to the fence at the edge and looked down at my Nicosia, I felt the mountain speaking to me and embracing me.

It was the day after Cyprus was attacked.

Being surrounded by Nature, I felt only one thing:
Surrender.
I had nowhere to go.

But the donkeys greeting me helped me feel grounded.
The mountain sending its cold wave my way made me feel present.
The olive tree down the road, standing tall and strong on her own, gave me strength.

While I felt safe in the arms of Mother Nature, why would others try to destroy everything she created?

If we planted more olive trees, could they bring peace to the world?

Would it be enough to save children from losing their lives while at school?

I have been deeply questioning the meaning of life lately.
Right on time, a friend recommended a book.

A serendipitous one.

In Man’s Search for Meaning, the words of Viktor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor, echo in my mind:

'A man who becomes conscious of the responsibility he bears toward a human being who affectionately waits for him, or to an unfinished work, will never be able to throw away his life.

He knows the "why" for his existence, and will be able to bear almost any "how."'
