New chapter, same passion for serving those who serve! 🇺🇸

Excited to join Navy Federal Credit Union as Senior Vice President of Military Affairs & Strategic Partnerships!

In this role, I’ll lead our efforts across military affairs, government relations and public policy, philanthropy, strategic partnerships, and the Office of Financial Opportunity.

An incredible first week connecting with our senior leadership team and partners at the Armed Services YMCA.

Grateful for the warm welcome, energized by the mission, and excited for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact for our military community.

One Bella Joy feels like she’s winning the Army Navy battle since I work at a place w Navy in the title and report to an Admiral 😂

Here’s to what’s ahead! 💙 taken in Pensacola, Florida by @elizabethobrien30

It has been the dream of a lifetime to work at Hiring Our Heroes for the last decade alongside some of the very best teammates America has to offer.

What a gift to walk alongside great Americans in communities around the world who care so deeply about this community, this mission, and the people we serve.

Thanks for letting me run it back, my friends ❤️there are no words.

And now, after two incredible chapters, my time at Hiring Our Heroes has come to an end.

Long live all the mountains we moved. by @elizabethobrien30

25 years is a long time and the blink of an eye all in the same breath.

I’m grateful to have spent the last few days walking alongside great Americans who have given so much in service to our country and to the communities they call home.

The FDNY, much like the military, remains a family business. In firehouses across New York City, there are brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, nieces and nephews carrying forward the legacy of those who served before them many related to those we lost on 9/11. And while fewer firefighters who were on duty that day are still serving, the memories and stories will continue to be told because the legacy of service lives on through the generations that follow.

I am always honored to sit at the kitchen tables in firehouses around the city and listen to the stories of great Americans who do the hard work every day to keep their communities safe. And I am always humbled to walk alongside Sal and @jwtrox as they continue to share their own stories of service, sacrifice and leadership and mentor the next generation.

This year felt especially meaningful to me. My nephew joined us for several engagements as he prepares to follow in his father’s footsteps and join the FDNY.

That may be the most powerful reminder of all: service doesn’t end with one generation. It is passed down. It is witnessed, remembered and chosen again.

25 years later, we remember those we lost. We honor those who served. And we watch a new generation step forward to carry the legacy.

#neverforget

Yesterday, @hiringourheroes launched our newest Skilled Trades Academy in Puget Sound in partnership with Boeing and this one is special.

Over six weeks, participants will complete a hands-on Mechatronics program, earn their OSHA 30 certification, receive 15 college credits, and most importantly leave the program pre-certified for employment at Boeing, meaning they will not have to interview for a job.

That is what it looks like when we connect training directly to opportunity.

We were honored to be joined by Washington Lt. Governor Denny Heck, Secretary of State Steve Hobbs, Bill McSherry, Vice President of State & Local Government Operations at Boeing, and so many leaders who understand the connection between talent, opportunity, economic strength, and our national security.

Boeing has been a partner to Hiring Our Heroes for more than a decade, and this launch represents another important chapter in that partnership. Their support goes far beyond funding their industry expertise helped shape a curriculum around the skills employers actually need in their workforce.

And none of this happens without the right partners on the ground. We are incredibly grateful to our education partners in South Puget Sound and to the entire Hiring Our Heroes team. This team just keeps rising to the challenge — building, adapting, and finding new ways to solve some of America’s most wicked workforce problems.

This is what partnership can look like when we get it right: training that leads somewhere, credentials that matter, and a direct pathway to a great American job. taken in Boeing Seattle, USA by @elizabethobrien30

Nothing makes me happier than watching great friends who are driven to create change rise.

Cheers to @matt_hesse and the entire @uhp team on debuting their Ignite America UHP car at NASCAR last night.

Since my first visit to UHP in July 2023, it’s been a privilege to watch Matt’s vision come to life and now to see them launch the first residential skilled trades school focused solely on serving veterans.

And for always welcoming Team @hiringourheroes to walk alongside solutions that serve our military connected community.

Cheers to the people who do exactly what they say they’re going to do. 🇺🇸

Looking for a military-community superhero, who is relentless, driven and can operate at a high level of intensity.

We’re looking for an active-duty military spouse or transitioning service member with experience in senior executive support + business operations to help keep me and HOH President Eric Eversole on track.

This is not calendars and email. Think priorities, follow-through, executive prep, problem-solving and keeping a fast-moving operation moving.

📍 U.S. Chamber of Commerce, DC — in office 3 days/week

Earlier this week, Justin testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee about the work he has led in Haiti over the past year.

What a privilege for Kait and Claire to be in the room to see their dad’s work firsthand and witness our American system at work. And to understand the terrible conditions the people of Haiti are living in.
///

The absence of governance in Haiti has created opportunities for informed power structures to thrive through use of force, financial independence, intimidation and terrorism. Over 20 different gang leaders deploy their foot soldiers to fight for control over Haiti’s territory and dwindling resources,” Gorkowski said

“This is a war situation, and unfortunately, that’s a reality for the situation we find ourselves in“

Previous international efforts, including the Kenya-led force, had mischaracterized the conflict, he argued.

They thought of this as a criminal problem. It is not,” said Gorkowski, who helped design the new gang-fighting response. “This is a proto-insurgency, and these folks really are on the verge of something significant.

Defeating the gangs, Gorkowski said, require four elements to be dismantled: “Arms and ammunition, illicit revenue generation, safe havens and alliance. by @elizabethobrien30
