There is a moment where they make the decision to put in the work because they are motivated to be stronger, and to be better. Tonight that conscious decision paid off. Congratulations Dorian on earning that brown belt! by @eljava1

The final day of the 2026 WAKO Youth World Championships brought one of the most exciting traditions in our sport - Point Fighting Team Competition.

After a full week of competing individually, our athletes stepped onto the tatami one more time, this time fighting for each other and for USA.

Team USA entered 11 teams, spanning our children through junior age divisions, with both male and female teams representing the United States. We are incredibly proud of every athlete who stepped onto the tatami for Team USA and every coach, teammate and family member who brought the energy all the way through the final day.

I spent the last 10 days in Italy coaching WAKO USA Kickboxing as over 3,800 athletes from 75 Countries participated in the WAKO Kickboxing Youth World Championships. Although there have been many unforgettable moments shared with old and new friends throughout this experience, these are by far, the most precious, and most memorable. During the same week that he celebrated his 18th birthday, my son Ibby AQ won his first WAKO World Championship with grace, style, and class. Watching him balance responsibilities as a student in the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University while training and navigating social relationships on campus makes Sophary AbdulQadir and I very proud parents. I could go on all day about beautiful Venice, delicious Gelato, etc. but I will save that for another post. Thank you to Top Ten Team USA, Fighters Inc, and Top Ten Martial Arts for your continued support. Oh yeah… and I turned 50! Thank you all for your birthday wishes. 🙏🏾

The WAKO world championships is the highest level of competition for kickboxing in the world, and as I’ve gotten older it’s only gotten more prestigious. This was the last competition as a junior, and I can officially say that I’m the best -69 junior in the world. Thank you to my sponsors @toptenteamusa @topten_martial_arts and @fighters_inc for supporting me on this journey, thank you to @wakousakickboxing for giving me the opportunity to perform on the big stage, and thank you to my family for the ongoing support and for making it all happen. This win marks the end of my junior career and the beginning of so much more! taken in Italy by @eljava1

It was truly an honor to host the first-ever @wakousakickboxing Tatami Open in Saratoga Springs. Bringing athletes, coaches, officials, and families together for this historic event was a proud moment for our sport and a testament to the continued growth of kickboxing in the United States.

I want to sincerely thank every club that traveled to compete and support this inaugural tournament. Your sportsmanship, dedication, and commitment helped make this event a tremendous success. We appreciate everyone who believed in this vision and contributed to creating an unforgettable weekend.

This is just the beginning. We look forward to welcoming you back next year as we continue to grow the WAKO USA Tatami Open into a premier event for athletes across the country.

Thank you for making history with us.

Luis “Picky” Rivera, Ibrahim Abdul-Qadir and Tyler Johnson of WAKO USA & Top Ten Team USA tapped in with me to talk about competition, mindset, point fighting techniques and a few other candid things to take note of. No scripts. Just real conversations with some of the best in the game. I enjoy their personalities! You should too.
