We’ve all stood on the shoulders of giants to reach for the (once) unimaginable.

Standing shoulder to shoulder with these 4 giants in my life this week was humbling and energizing.

They had the gall to be ambitious, blaze trails, take risks and create fertile and inspiring foundations for my personal and artistic growth.

It’s not a regular occurrence we’re all in the same place at the same time these days. So that’s that. Giving thanks.

Basements were our dojo’s. 🥋

Celebrating my big brother @dskrizzy 50th birthday in a few weeks! I owe so much of my artistic journey to this man. His childhood home was the hub for dope sh!t. His parents (my aunt and uncle) showed nothing but love to supporting our path.

It’s gonna be nothing but a love fest. Big milestone. Big homies on the wheels. Tickets go live tomorrow.

Repost from @jamespoyser & @questlove This is the lesson we all need to learn. Yesterday all social media users got a rude abrupt pushback from “the music industry” limiting our music activity in extreme measures. These are unprecedented times. The ENTIRE world is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. DJs are heroes. They are providing essential services and calm. The astounding amount of responses the dj community has received from first responders on the job listening to their mixes. The amount of funds raised for those in need cannot be ignored. Even from an entertainment standpoint the amount of music discovered (shazamed/followed & added to lists) —I know for a fact that I’ve raised awareness to ALOT of your once dormant catalogues. That #24HoursOfStevie day alone was one giant Ivy League tutorial that kept me adding like 200+ songs to my streaming services alone.

We once had a protocol for life pre Feb 2020 (matter of fact this can also apply to landlords, utility companies, etc too) but hear me loud and clear oh ye wealthy heads of social media/publishing companies/record label heads/smithers/burns/and lawyers: you cannot use the business model from PRE COVID in POST COVID TIMES!! So yeah I get it: “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's.....” (-JC) but the other side of that coin is you disrupting people’s lives in the name of an outdated model (since it’s inception the music business has never been a fair business—-let’s not forget Napster/The @DJDrama mixtape situation/& how y’all handled these 360 deals & streaming rates—-this is the one time you can really make it right. I’m begging y’all to lift these music restrictions FOR NOW —-the difference in doing us this solid is MAJOR. The amount of GOOD distraction it provides is key. Key for calm. cause w/o this music? That just opens the door for idle thoughts. Call it being over dramatic but historians know James Brown kept Boston from rioting in 68 by providing a service. You are taking away that service to protect assets & property that won’t even be here if this continues. At least FOR NOW lift the restrictions. #DJsAreHeroesToo. by @eljay_ii

So a couple of weeks ago, the news that our very own @regentparkmusic kids backed @taylorswift on her album Lover. It’s Nice to Have a Friend used a composition via @kingswaymusiclib courtesy of @frankdukes with hockey assists from @chrana @matthewtavares_ and @wesallenalways where proceeds from sales and streams go directly back to support the school. When the news hit, many of my friends and family hit me up wondering how they could give back and help the school as well.
Here’s your chance... If you feel so inclined please buy the pack at parkscapes.ca and enjoy 11 beautifully composed tracks performed by our students (including Summer in the South) or go to donate.parkscapes.ca to make a direct donation to the school. We also take instrument donations. Many of our students go home with instruments with no extra charge thanks to many a kind donation (including our DJ students 😉) Regent Park School of Music are a not for profit community school servicing both Regent Park and Jane & Finch. Our faculty are amazing and our kids are the best. What a start to the year. Please share this or simply smile at the fact that good things are continuing to happen in this amazing city. by @eljay_ii

HUGE Thank You to @taylorswift & @frankdukes
What a beautiful collaboration. 🎉

You are going to see me post about this a lot. @frankdukes & @kingswaymusiclib collaborated with our kids and grads to create this music library. I’m insanely proud of the work @regentparkmusic kids put in and couldn’t be more excited about the finished product. Whether you license music, need samples as a beat maker , or want to find a unique way to donate to the school, go to parkscapes.ca
Repost from @kingswaymusiclib using @RepostRegramApp - Proud to announce our latest release called “Parkscapes”. Parkscapes is a collaboration between Kingsway Music Library and the Regent Park School of Music and it’s the first music library of its kind. Every time you download or license it, proceeds go towards funding the Regent Park School of Music and inspiring kids through music education. Composed entirely by @frankdukes and performed entirely by @regentparkmusic students. Download it at parkscapes.ca and transform a sample into much more than a beat. by @eljay_ii
