STORY TIME: While I was on a yacht in South Africa getting some shots of the sunset, my DJI Mini 3 Pro gave me a warning to land soon since the battery was low. I’ve flown this hundreds of times and know I have at least another 30 seconds or a minute until it gives me another warning… well not this time… My drone just popped up the emergency landing warning and I couldn’t cancel it. I’m in the middle of the ocean and didn’t know where my drone was. Panicking I panned the camera around looking for the yacht I was on but couldn’t find it. I saw a nearby public beach and decided to land it there. After I landed the drone, I asked the captain if we could get closer to the beach, he said no. I asked if there was a raft, he said no. I contemplated swimming to get my drone but it was a distance and the water was freezing. The captain agreed to head back to the docks so I could get a ride to the beach. I was hurt.. sitting in the corner as everyone else was dancing to music. We get back to the dock and my driver takes me to the beach where I landed my drone. It was pitch black with faint lights from the homes on the cliff. I did the “Find My Drone” option and went to where my drone was last active. As I’m standing in the area, a freezing cold wave hits my feet. There’s no way that my drone survived that. My driver took me back to the hotel where I damn near cried myself to sleep. All that footage. All that money. I still had plenty of shots I wanted to get. I go to sleep and have a dream that someone I knew found my drone. It was a strange dream, but the whole time I was in South Africa I kept feeling energy over me, like I was being watched over. I woke up the next morning and checked my phone like everyone does nowadays. I checked my email and get an email from DJI. The support team emailed me stating that someone found my drone and wanted to return it. I was able to get my drone back, although it no longer works, I got the footage. Forever grateful!
