ElkBros Coaching Tip - Cows are the key!
If you get on a bull with cows hitting the trees and going to bed, following behind them can be a lesson in frustration. A cat and mouse game with a bull stopping and then running to catch up to the ladies. Or the dreaded sentry cow that stares your way for an eternity while the herd disappears. Each situation leaving you in the dust.

We highly recommend getting on the downwind parallel side and getting after it with the goal of getting up with the front of the herd.
If you do that, you are with the ones pulling the bull and in great position for multiple strategies;
…getting between the cows and the bull and pulling him with a light mew or even staying silent and ambushing
… pulling the cows to you with cow/calf sounds and the bull in tow
… roundup or display bugles aimed at the cows to bring the bull running to protect his herd
…letting the cows bed and calling the bull away at midday.

Comment: “Bows account, by far, for way more fatally wounded or lost game than rifles”.

Our response:
First of all, this is something all hunters should take to heart and look inside ourselves and consider. Because bows don’t fatally wound or lose game… let’s call it like it is… it’s the hunters behind them. Sure, there are exceptions and things can go south no matter what, but this is really about hunters not being “Game On” ready to hunt with their weapon. They are not accurate shots, nor have they spent enough time behind the weapon preparing for realistic hunting situations and shot angles. They often have poorly tuned gear or even gear that is not matched for the animal they are hunting.

They end up taking marginal shots, not knowing (or even worse, not caring) or understanding the animal’s anatomy. More than often, shooting beyond their effective killing range or at distances that can turn a great shot on a static target, to a shot of remorse on an animal that takes a step in any direction.

Can a rifle mitigate some of this? Absolutely. But a poorly prepared hunter is a recipe for disaster, on so many levels, no matter the years of experience, or the weapon.

With that said, we should ALL demand more from ourselves to be a better, stronger, more efficient, more effective and therefore a more responsible and ethical hunter. Whatever weapon we choose.

Your thoughts??

Some hunts are about more than the outcome. They're about the people, the experience, and what you take away from the mountain.

Another look at the hunt where my buddy KC came out on top, but this time the spotlight belongs to ELK BROS and the man behind it, Joe.

What sets Joe apart isn't just his knowledge of elk hunting. It's his commitment to passing that knowledge on, investing in his guides, and helping clients become better hunters.

There's a difference between taking someone hunting and genuinely helping them grow as a hunter. That's what ELK BROS represents.

Better hunters. Stronger relationships. Experiences that last long after the hunt ends.

Funny how small the hunting world really is.

Our brother KC ended up winning an elk hunt with Elk Bros.
Keith just so happen to work with Elk Bro's.
What started as a random opportunity turned into a hunt that brought a few familiar faces together in a way none of us would have expected. As well it created more extensions to the family tree with men like Mike and all the leaders of EB!

The hunting industry has a funny way of coming full circle. Between friendships, connections, and a shared passion for the outdoors, it's pretty wild how the branches of the fmily tree grow.

Even better when it all comes together around a successful elk hunt, good friends, and memories that'll last a lifetime.

Congrats to KC on a great bull and an experience worth remembering!
Thank you to all the men at Elk Bro's!
This hunt could not have finished this way without them!

Ryan won this hunt through our ElkBros Adventure Club. The Club is our way of opening up an elk opportunity that most of us couldn’t afford. A way for others to experience a place we hold special in our heart. A place of reverence.

Yesterday, Ryan’s first bull became a reality.
And he wasn’t alone in the moment. Best friends by his side and some of best men you will ever find to spend days in the outdoors with… our ElkBros Crew, to the last person, are amazing.

And in his pack, the gift of a Montana Knife Company knife from our good friend Gary Gallegos. Gary is a brother from another mother. Another amazing human being we are proud and blessed to have in our circle.

And when you see something like this with Ryan and all the folks that in any small way took part in his experience, it makes you realize that we only think we are in control. But we’re not.
Some things are just meant to be. Soak it up Ryan. Enjoy.

Tuo’s Vista pant. Our crew’s new favorite britches.
@tuo_gear

Finally a lightweight pant that is durable, quiet and built for the woods and everyday wear too! Man we really love these. I’ve been through an entire September in them, and they came out the other side with a little blood, but just a solid as the day I put them on. That’s the type of gear I need. You can check out the Vista at tuogear.com. They run some great sales all the time, but if they’re not, be sure to use ELKBRO20 and save 20 percent.
