Somehow, the hardest season of our lives became the one that changed us the most. Watching my dad fight through his stroke and recovery was something I never could’ve prepared my heart for. There were moments that felt impossible, moments full of fear, exhaustion, anger, and heartbreak. But through every setback, every hospital room, every prayer whispered at 2 a.m., God never left our side.

My dad has always been my best friend. The person who made me laugh when I needed it most, protected me without hesitation, and loved me in the gentlest ways. Ever since I was little, he’s called me his butterfly. I never fully understood why growing up, but now I think it’s because butterflies symbolize transformation, endurance, and becoming something even more beautiful after surviving the darkest places. In so many ways, that’s exactly who he is too.

As painful as this journey has been, I truly believe it happened for a reason bigger than us. It forced our family to slow down, hold each other tighter, appreciate the little moments, and realize how precious life really is. It changed all of us forever. And somehow, through all the suffering, God brought more love, strength, faith, and gratitude into our lives than we ever had before.

Happy Father’s Day to the strongest man I know. Thank you for fighting so hard to stay here with us. I will spend the rest of my life grateful that I still get to call you my dad and that I’ll always be your butterfly. I love you ❤️ by @ella.halligan
