Pleased to be a part of 'Tide and Place' a group exhibition exploring our relationship with the sea and coastline by @wrap_space in partnership with @sussexbayuk under 'Sussex Bay Creates'. The exhibition is open this weekend 11am-5pm and next weekend 2nd/3rd May 11am-5pm and Fridays by appointment until October. The Winter Studio Residency Artist Takeover begins 📣 Introducing our first Artist, Ella Husbands...

So far during the Winter Studio Residency, I have been developing two versions of a new large scale sculptural installation. The large amount of physical space provided by the residency has informed the direction that the installations have taken and the materials that I’ve been using.

The outcome will be two experimental versions of the installation; one using sculptural shapes and printed imagery, and one using sculptural shapes and projected video.

I have created small scale models of the sculptures, which I am now scaling up in size, using a projector and spot and cross paper to create a paper pattern. I will then be transferring the patterns onto thick printed card, as well as plain white card, to create the two sets of sculptures.

Alongside this, I have been creating videos using fabric dyes in water, fresh flowers, and led lights, which I have been experimenting with projecting onto the sculptural shapes.

Introducing Ella Husbands -

Ella is a Brighton-based artist whose work explores notions of disrupted perception. Her work centres on a sense of movement and pattern. She uses image distortion, abstract form, and colour to explore rhythms and cycles in nature - she often employs sculptural elements to emphasise and/or disrupt these rhythms.

Ella is one of 14 exhibiting artists featuring in our ‘In Every Shadow’ project which is part of this year’s Coastal Currents Festival. Check out our website (link in bio) for more info, or send us a DM.
