We think of the past as being there unchangeable, but actually the past is ours to shape and change as we will.

Reimagining my family archive - bringing it to life in sonic format, activated through custom coded touch sensors. Touching the past and facilitating speculative conversations between past and present family members.

This is a deeply personal project, which has taken on different sonic forms over the last couple of years as I dive back into it to reimagine the frameworks and content.

Since my Dad passed on early 2025, this project involving my family history took on another dimension of meaning. A lot of the audios within here were and still are difficult to listen to, but also reinforce what motivated me to begin this exploration.

Having the opportunity to perform in my home city London, with my family and closest friends was a really special moment.

‘Lamiae’. On view until 05.11.2026 at Nimu Dormi @derenava.art Biennale of Bonifaccio, Corsica.

Lamiae began as a story I wrote about a world inhabited by sleepless, chthonic figures reclaiming the curse of monstrosity and turning wakefulness into a form of resistance, and collective agency. For the installation, I wanted this world to extend beyond the physical sculpture, activated through sound and light.

Ella Wanendeya’s projection mapping activated Lamia, surrounding the figure and extending her presence into the darkness, while emphasising her eyes, which remain at the centre of the story. The tension between the sleeping eyes and the surrounding movement reflects Lamia’s condition of being condemned to wakefulness. The visual language draws from the nocturnal spaces where sound, light, bodies and alternative forms of gathering come together.

MarcelDune created the original sound piece specifically for Lamiae. The music feels both distant and present, almost like a memory carried by Lamia as she narrates the story. It is the music she remembers playing in the background, the sound that accompanies her nights and connects her community together. Somewhere between experimental and rave, it becomes a trace of a life that continues around her, even when it is not directly heard.

I am more than grateful to both for bringing their own languages into the work and for making this world exist in ways beyond the original story.

Instruments of Power — Live Performance at 198 Contemporary Arts & Learning

Join us for a live performance of Instruments of Power (IOP) by Ella Wanendeya as part of the closing programme for TOOLs, a multidisciplinary group exhibition featuring Ella Wanendeya, Fi Sonola, and Kialy Tihngang, curated by Shane Sutherland.

IOP is a living sonic archive presented through a series of touch-activated metal vocal pad instruments. When activated, voices from different generations of Wanendeya’s family emerge, allowing distant pasts and unborn futures to intersect. Through improvisational sound and tactile interaction, the work draws on Ugandan oral storytelling traditions to create space for memory, resonance, and diasporic continuity.

During this special performance, Wanendeya will activate the installation in a short live set within the gallery.

Attendance is free with limited capacity.

Still not over ‘Visual Frequencies’ at Nxt ⚡️

At the intersection of electronic music, visual art, and technology, Amsterdam Dance Event returned to Nxt with a programme that traced techno’s many voices and futures. We talked to three of the visual artists who lit up the room during this audiovisual spectacle.

Reflecting on the crazy wrap of the @nxtmuseum x @eerstecommunie residency I did in May, where we transformed the exhibition space into a club environment

Had the chance to run the live visuals across a 96 screen installation, by @boris.acket as well as the signature Nxt giant screen at the same time

Collaborated with @hitam.ec on this AV performance, bringing the energy up to close the night

Back in April, I was invited to contribute to the Embodied Restoration Lab @ at the @nieuweinstituut in Rotterdam. I presented my [then] prototype instruments, Instruments of Power, a series of custom instruments which aim to trace ancestry through sound and bring familiarity back into the personal archive.

We took steps towards renegotiating and manifesting our collective futures, one envisioned as decolonial, intersectional and non-hierarchical. Connecting global people in the physical space and facilitating conversations, was an important step to making these visions a clearer and closer reality.

Some parts of the process;

1 - melting mountains
2 - when I had every tech nightmare possible the week before
3 - testing the pressure sensors
4 - polishing the instruments
5 - 4/6, half polished half not yet
6 - sample of sampling old conversations to create new conversations

INSTRUMENTS OF POWER, MA graduation project at @designacademyeindhoven

I had a lot of problems with the Western archive structures…and so I made a type of living sonic archive, presented as this series of metal instruments.

When activated, distant pasts + unborn futures engage - presenting infinite co-existing narratives.

Sound presents as a medium which enables time to spill over boundaries.
