Due to popular demand ... 3 MORE NIGHTS of THE WORLD'S MOST ICONIC LOVE STORY πŸ”₯ Join Cape Town's cult-classic theatre troupe, Baked Shakespeare for our chaotic take on Romeo and Juliet 🎭 We've been off doing our own thing for a few months, but we are BACK for one last party with our family @theoutlorebase before they move venues!!! πŸ’š This is the LAST TIME EVER that Baked Shakespeare performs at 80 Hout Street - so join us in celebrating the beautiful space that our friends/family, The Outlore, have created πŸ’š πŸ’– Two star-crossed lovers from conflicting families fall into a reckless, all-consuming love ... you know the rest πŸ˜‰ πŸƒ Not really a tragedy (although it's very tragic), not really a comedy (although it's very funny), and full of electric chemistry, outrageous musical numbers, and explosive sword fights! Join our award-winning cast at @theoutlorebase for a psychedelic evening of classical performance with a twist (and some of the grooviest 420 vibrations imaginable). See for yourself why South Africa LOVES Baked Shakespeare. πŸ—“ November 27 - 29 | The @theoutlorebase, 80 Hout St, Cape Town City Centre 🎟 Book now ... while you still can (link in bio) **PG 18 (fun language, 🌢 appeal, general adult happenings) Poster by @theungratefulgargoyle by @ella_vdrfield
Dear Mr President, β€˜Happy’ heritage day, I guess ?? Although, doesn’t feel like there is much to celebrate for our country at the moment honestly πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸ’”πŸ’œ Gender-based violence has been declared a national disaster - but systematically nothing has been done. Children will always mimic the behaviour of adults around them. We live in an environment inundated with r*pe culture, therefore women, children & those living in lower income communities will continue to suffer the brunt of that burden. This means schools across South Africa are battling serial r*pe cases amongst students. It was a deeply bitter sweet experience hearing a hall full of kids shout β€œmy body!” & β€œI’m the boss”. Simultaneously an empowering and heartbreaking feeling, because why, WHY the F*CK are children this young NEEDING to learn this vocabulary? Because without this lesson, (even with it) they are unprotected. Because p*dophiles & r*pists are charged pennies for their bail. Because policy & action in South Africa, do not exist to aid those who are vulnerable. Thank you @mazquerade_ & @_sibo.moyo for trusting me to engage with this process - I hope we can continue to build something engaging & educational together β™₯️ Social Workers are super heroes & you can’t convince me otherwise. Sincerely, just one of the millions of furious South African women #womenforchange #unburythetruth #dearmrpresident #consent #bodysafety by @ella_vdrfield
We should all care about what is happening in our country. GBV is a national disaster, our government is silent, too many men are silent, and we are angry. We believe that everyone (including our little theatre company) should use their platform in any way they are able - to uplift our communities and stand in solidarity. So here are some resources πŸ’œ This isn't your normally scheduled Baked Shakespeare programming - we'll get back to that soon, we promise - but all art is political. What's being done to women in South Africa is not normal, it has been normalised. And that is bullshit, always has been. We love you, we believe you, we stand together. by @ella_vdrfield
I believe you β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή There are so many resources & people who want to support you through this difficult journey πŸ«‚ Prima Facie is on for one more week in Cape Town before heading to Joburg!
