Sweet Eli, you are so loved by our community.

Not a day has gone by where I haven’t thought of you, cried for your family, and prayed for your peace. For the past few days, I’ve wondered why God would take you and Father Norman away from us within two years of each other and I’m trying to accept the conclusion that it is because this world is too imperfect for souls like yours. My two favorite beacons of Christ’s light gone before I could even imagine life without them, but luckily for me they didn’t leave before changing my perspective on everything.

Losing Father Norman, called me to do more and to be more. I became a better person, a better leader. Then last March when Eli got sick, I found myself becoming a stronger believer. Watching the Sloan’s remain faithful despite all they have endured, has lit the fire of the Holy Spirit under my ass and inspired me to be a better Catholic.

I told Lilly at Eli’s prayer service in February, that I’ve had this image of Father Norman waiting, with open arms, at the gates of Heaven for Eli, welcoming him home. That’s the image I’m choosing to see moving forward. A place where the two of them are together, building legos and telling jokes. Happy and pain-free.

Eli has shown me that life is far too short to waste a single moment focusing on all of the negatives. He chose to surround himself with love and to fill his heart with hope, even in the face of darkness. To be grateful for the gift of life despite how hard it can be. I’m going to live and love like Eli for the rest of my life. I hope everyone can put a little bit of that love in their hearts.

His never ending faith and joy, will remain constant in my heart forever. Father Norm and Eli are together now, once again and I wonder how the people in Heaven could ever stop smiling!

May we all continue to surround the Sloan’s with our love and support. God is merciful and God is good. Rest in his arms now, Eli. 🌈🤍 by @ellakthiel
