THE “CARESS” CUFF. 2024.

a combination of the original “caress” cuff and “hold” bracelet from my thesis, “tender embrace”, this piece was inspired by the human form and designed to flare like the cuff of a dress shirt. handmade in fine silver.

in my design process, i often find it inspiring to look at works outside of jewelry. successful designs in fashion, photography, furniture, painting and sculpture have influenced the way i create.

To celebrate the journey of the shell, so unique to each individual organism, my process is long and arduous. It serves as a reminder to both myself and the eventual wearer that life and art must be appreciated for what they are, delicacies encompassed by complexities. In order to understand the beauty, to get the most of out the experience, the journey must be taken over an extended period of time, not rushed or repeated without intention.

My work exists to appreciate the beauty and imperfections of the natural world. In my process, I find that most spectacular ideas come from a place of curiosity, a desire to understand.

Shells, in particular, tell a story of the life lived by the creature it protected. Grown over the course of a lifetime, the parts we disregard, or even throw away at the end of a meal, are those most crucial to understanding the journey of the delicacy beneath the shell. Without the barnacles, the dents and the dings, how would you know that what’s inside has been so perfectly preserved?
