Last night I finished my set with an original. I was so grateful (and scared) to have the opportunity to play it.

I remember this song soundtracking many drives in the car as a young child. I sat in my booster seat listening to my mum sing along as she drove.

This memory was somewhere in the back of my mind until my early teens, when I started to accompany myself singing on the piano. I went back to this song; the raw lyrics and permeating melody solidifying my love for storytelling through music.

This song has had countless iterations of meaning and significance to me over the years.
It’s one of the first songs I learnt to accompany myself with on the piano, the song I sang for my Year 12 assessment piece, the song I go back to when I waver in my relationship with music and the song I now (occasionally) cry to in the car in my 20s.

I can only describe it as the song of my life and it was a privilege to perform it alongside @marystapledon and @nevesargeantofficial.

There is more in the works for The Songbird Sessions, and I can’t wait.
