We need to talk about ugly pages.

When I first started writing in my Hobonichi Cousin, I often found myself paralyzed by the need to create a work of art worthy of the Louvre. Even before I had this Instagram account, I wanted to create something impressive. I was afraid to experiment because I didn't want to face "ugly" pages. That changed when I met Ria, a journaller I greatly admire. She inspired me to view my Hobonichi not as a sacred space to be feared or worshipped, but as a place for experimentation, fun, and self-expression. She practically gave me permission to destroy my journal if I felt like it. She has no idea the transformation that sparked in me.

Since then, I’ve come to view my Hobonichi exactly as it should be: an extension of myself and a reflection of my days. I’ve become consistent in my writing without even trying. By combining this with my daily practice of doing something imperfect, I stopped worrying about getting things "right" or "wrong." Even the pages I hated the most taught me something; they helped me build my own identity, discover what works for me, and forge my own path.

In the end, I realized there are no truly ugly or beautiful pages, it all depends on your perspective. There have been times when I created a spread I initially hated, but after letting it sit for a few hours or days, I’d come back to it and realize it wasn't that bad, it wasn't the disaster I had first thought.

So, for what it's worth: don't worry so much about creating beautiful pages, owning trendy stationery, or following fads. Focus instead on being authentic, creating with meaning, and enjoying the process.

first week of September in my journal

I’ve been battling burnout, extreme exhaustion, and health issues like severe allergies and recurring inflammation. It’s no wonder I’ve been absent, but at least I’ve had my journal, not just as a companion, but also to soothe my nervous system by putting into words the whirlwind of feelings that often overwhelms me, turning them into something beautiful to record.

Even amidst the chaos, I got up every day and gave it my all to create a life worth living.

I came up with a new idea for a coloring book.

My government rehabilitation plan was renewed, which significantly eased my anxiety.

I finished reading I Who Have Never Known Men ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I slept a lot.

I took part in my first journaling workshop hosted by @mada_abreu_ .

I saw my favorite doctor and felt hopeful about the new strategies we devised to improve my health.

And I had both fun and frustration playing Star Citizen during a very difficult, time-consuming mission.

Happy mail day!

I received my first letter from the mail club by Marigona, an artist I’ve always admired. Her work is beautiful! I can't wait to decorate my reading journal with the stickers.

My long-awaited Ohuhu pen set, a collaboration with Coco Wyo, also arrived. I was delighted by every detail.

And a friend brought over the items I ordered from Nakano this month. I’ll finally be able to use my favorite pen again. I bought two ink refills just in case, so I wouldn't be caught off guard; the last cartridge lasted a little over two months of daily writing. I also bought a sketchbook to get ready for Inktober. I’m really excited to participate and get back into the habit of drawing.

P.S. My original caption disappeared from the photo right after I posted it, and I didn't have time to rewrite it. Honestly, I don't even remember what I originally posted, but I did my best to recall it.

august flip throug in my journal

this was my second month of consistent writing, even though the last week of August hit me like a truck, forcing me to write about more than seven days' worth of events in a single entry, which stressed me out a bit.

August was a month full of ups and downs; there were many joys, but also brain fog, exhaustion, shutdowns, and health issues, which is why I was less active.

despite continuing to experiment with my Hobonichi, I realize I am increasingly finding my own style.

played mostly scrap mechanic

I started filming videos for the Junior & Mi channel again, began visiting the local library, made new friends, did some shopping at Nakano, bought a new car (Leapmotor B10), went through hell and back, ursula's school started again, and I received my first letter from the mail clubs I signed up for.

I finally decorated the cover of my Hobonichi Cousin with these cute stickers I received at the first online journaling workshop I attended, led by the amazing artist Mada.

It was wonderful meet other girls, reflect on good summer moments, do activities together, and of course, get lots of lovely treats. Thank you for this experience, Mada, and for being such a great inspiration to me.

My first Happy Mail ever arrived from @brambletown.mail.club and I can tell you that really made my day happier. Now I get the name Happy Mail 😆

Hey friends, how are you all doing? I really missed chatting with you and sharing my art, but this past week has been challenging, full of commitments, lots of exhaustion, and shutdowns.

I haven't even been journaling for days and I already feel how much this is affecting me emotionally. My daughter went back to school and I hope to gradually get back into a new routine, and I have lots of plans not only for Instagram posts, but also for YouTube videos and Substack articles.

unfortunately, i haven't adapted to my beautiful Tiefossi notebook that i gave myself as a birthday present.

so, after much thought, i decided to take a break from my Tiefossi and switch my reading journal for a media journal in my new Stalogy B6 slim bought at the @nakano_shop

only time and use will tell if the switch will work for me...

i've been getting increasingly confused about which notebooks to use. i wish i could afford to buy one of each to test and see which one i actually like best.

@sterlingink e @filoplanner are for sure in my wishlist ❤️

last weeks in my journal...

August 1st was the festival of the first harvest - Lammas - inviting us to reflect on what has flourished in our lives so far, what we are already harvesting, and what we wish to continue nurturing...

And now a brief summary of my days...

played mostly scrap mechanic (i love you Jessica!)

trying new layouts and photoshoots

had a new idea for my snail mail

july was a month of experimentation in my hobonichi's spreads.

i tested various layout combinations and hated most of them, but i was glad i tried. in the end, even some pages that i thought i had ruined, i ended up admiring.

is it too late to start a reading journal?

i've been reading a lot this year and have always recorded my readings digitally, but after starting an analog journal, i felt like recording my readings on paper too. so i bought this magnificent journal from @tiefossi_journals and yesterday I stayed up all night decorating some of its pages. i think i'll spend the rest of the year setting it up... haha, to start all over again in 2027.
