•
Pick up all you know
let it fall through
your fingers like sand.
What you thought you knew
You don’t.
Take a risk
Do something new
Something outside what’s familiar
There life gets confronted.
•
Get perspective
Take your lens
And your view
Flip it upside down.
You might get a cleaning
or you may get a new one.
Whatever the case
reality as you know it
is either confirmed or shattered
Is that comforting?
No.
•
However, neither are bad
both are necessary
This can shift everything
Reality checks are where life happens,
where the rubber meets the road
There we put to action
things we’ve learned
To find out if our learned values,
Our views
are useful or wasteful
These are the moments,
the memorial stones
That can change everything.
And I can almost guarantee
that what we learn
will take us by surprise

Gratitude.
Thankfulness.
It’s not a simple thing to grasp.
You could say,
“Just be thankful!”
And call it a day.
But when all is said + done is
“Just be thankful!”
Enough of a statement?
Does it improve your mood?
Your general state of mind?
Yes…
But no.
It doesn’t if you practice it just one day a year every year or even here or there.
But if you practiced everyday?
Now we are talking about true gratitude.
Perspective flipping,
Mind shifting,
Life altering,
Change.
Suddenly your glass isn’t so empty
+ the world isn’t so gray + drab as it appeared.
The sun shines with a warm glow
+ the falling rain strangely now peaceful.
And in some strange way the peeves we once kept as pets don’t annoy us as they once used to.
So do I think
“Just be thankful!”
Works?
Yes.
But!
Only if practiced daily.
Not yearly,
Nor monthly,
Weekly works,
But daily?
For true perspective shift to affect the attitude of your heart + soul…
Daily.

The Gift of Hiding
•
It’s not my gift
It’s His.
It’s not mine,
It’s His.
I try to convince myself daily,
It’s not about me,
It’s about the King.
I’m learning the gift of hiding
•
Yet my ego wants the glory.
My ego wants to be seen.
My ego wants the satisfaction of praise.
It is obsessed with making my name known.
But all that comes with that
Is a never ending thirst for more
With zero satisfaction
+ a belly full of zeal
With nowhere for it to go.
Empty.
Dry.
Bitter.
•
When I silence my ego.
When I say no.
When I refuse to do what
It’s screaming at me to do,
I find rest.
When I step aside,
When I let the King of my heart have the glory,
I find satisfaction.
I find purpose for
The zeal in my belly
Even if it means being hidden,
There is where I can share my gift freely.
There is where I find true peace.

August in squares.
•
August has been a slow + intentional month. It begged us to be ever so present every single day. With the impending move slowly creeping in on us, the desire to soak up the ones near us intensifies us. And the reality that we won’t really be all that far doesn’t escape the truth that we will have to be that much more intentional to stay in connection. Having sweet community is hard to say goodbye to. But knowing we are headed into another community just as beautiful + caring is comforting.
•
Our move is so multi-faceted that we plan to share the deets on one of our walks - so keep an eye out for that! For now… here was August for those that want to know:
Pictures 1-4: my 2 day silent retreat (with a friend - and yes we were successfully silent the entire time!) This chunk of time was so beautiful + it blessed my heart to ease into my 2nd ever silent retreat with a friend around.

Summer is going by in a beautiful stream of intentional activity. I think we might be getting the hang of us ruling our summer instead of summer ruling us! So thankful for the slow and purposeful days ❤️ Back off I go to finish up my social media free summer! See you in Sept friends 😘 (PS… our house is under contract! Our moving adventure is starting to take form!)
