Sir Huxley - Dec 29, 2019 - Nov 18, 2024 🌈 A year ago today, I said goodbye to my dearest Huxley. While most know, I never posted about it, because for a year I’ve been searching for the words and the strength. To meet Huxley was to fall in love, and be bossed around by him. With those green eyes, it was impossible to tell him no. Born in Boston to a stray cat mom, Huxley (and his late brother, Orwell) lived a traveling life most humans don’t. From Massachusetts to D.C., North Dakota, Delaware, Italy, New York, California and Hawaii, Huxley never minded the big moves, as long as his humans were around. He was my Covid lifeline, especially during a 10 month stretch w/o many friends or any family in California. He was always up for a snuggle, a belly scratch or to supervise your activities in the kitchen. He was often a jerk, but in the best, most lovable kitty way. I still think about him everyday, and still look for him whenever I walk through door. I think I’ll miss him forever, but so thankful that he was my life for 15 years. I trust he’s been reunited with Orwell, and that their older brother, Anakin, is with them, too. You were all so loved. 😌 by @elleinprocess

I’m not sure that Hawai’i will ever feel like home, but some days, like today, it feels like a fairytale—a tropic Neverneverland. Someday, when my time here is just a distant dream, a foggy memory, these pictures might be my only proof—that I was really here, that days like today happened, and Hawai’i’a majestic beauty wasn’t just my imagination. 🌺

I’ve been home in Hawaii for 3 weeks after 3 months in The Netherlands, and I’m struggling. Struggling to sleep, to find a routine, to write good words, to connect with myself and this version of home. While social media isn’t the problem, it’s likely not part of the solution. 😌

Having a reality check moment: I’m sitting in the vast and architecturally stunning Daikanyama T-site book store in Tokyo, reading a book and drinking a coffee. Sometimes I just have to pause in amazement at the wonder of it all. Japan may be the 34th different country I’ve explored on this planet, but inside I’m still just a little girl from small town Falconer, NY, thinking, “What is this extraordinary life?” 🥹

Nearly two weeks into the journey, Kyoto remains my favorite city. If you visit, make the trek to the outskirts of the city to visit the Buddhist temple, Otagi Nenbutsu-ji and its 1,200 Rakan statues. It’s a sight to see and a peaceful place to be.
