Following the incredible success of #TheForgottenIsland, the premiere night was a celebration of the creative minds behind the film. From the talented voice actors and animators to the visionary directors and musical artists.

We were deeply honored that the Music Scorer and Composer, Nathan Matthew David, chose to wear our brand for this special evening. The garment he wore was crafted using custom woven inaul, sourced from our partner weaver community in Sultan Kudarat.

As a Gongster working closely with our partner organization, House of Gongs (which works to promote indigenous sounds and music), Nathan’s support means the world to us. Thank you, Nathan, for believing in our mission and vision.

What is behind the asymmetrical design?
Many believe balance requires perfect symmetry or matching sides. But for @msellekarayan, true balance exists in contrast, much like Yin and Yang. Symmetry is not the only way to express harmony, Lydia’s asymmetrical cuts offer a fresh, modern perspective on craftsmanship.

Bespoke:
At our core, we listen to your personal story and honor the voices of your ancestors. Let us co-create your next bespoke statement piece for your upcoming special event.

Send us a direct message today to start planning your custom garment!

ELLE KARAYAN'S FRESH DRIP!

The Karayan Trench Coat. A coat made to feel like an embrace.

Woven by our partner weavers in Bangar, La Union, this coat is crafted from, thick Kundiman weaving, designed to wrap around the body with warmth, weight, and intention.

The silhouette was born from a deeply personal moment: the embrace of Lydia’s father during her last visit before he passed away. That feeling of being held by a parent the quiet comfort, the protection, the warmth is woven into the spirit of this piece.

As the winter gets colder, let the Karayan Trench Coat live through your body and warm your heart. This is a reminder that you can carry the feeling of home with you, wherever you go.

Made slowly and intentionally through our network of partner artisans, each coat honors the hands, heritage, and living traditions behind the textile.

Available in Black/Gray and Red.
Note: This is not included on the DARAT Sale.

Indigenous is the Future.
Made with intention. Worn with memory.

Why Diaspora Filipinos Will See Themselves in Forgotten Island’s Jo? Beyond the myth and mystery, Jo’s story touches on the quiet, often unspoken parts of the diaspora experience. It reflects what it truly means to stay behind, hold tightly to your roots, and define your identity on your own terms.

#ellekarayan #fahm #forgottenisland #filipinx #filipinoculture

While loved ones move abroad, Jo stays deeply tied to her heritage through the oral stories passed down by her Lola. For many in the global diaspora, cultural history does not live in textbooks, but in the memories, lessons, and voices of our elders. Jo reminds us that holding onto family history is a powerful and necessary act of preservation.

#ellekarayan #fahm #forgottenisland #filipinx #filipinoculture

When migration enters the picture, it naturally creates emotional gaps between those who leave and those who remain behind. Yet, watching loved ones embark on divergent paths does not mean the bond you built is lost forever. Divergent paths don’t er’se shared roots. The connection survives distance when we continue to nurture it.

#ellekarayan #fahm #forgottenisland #filipinx #filipinoculture

As we celebrate Filipino American History Month, Jo’s story gives us a gentle reminder of the power found in our heritage. True strength comes from honoring the places, people, and stories that shaped who we are today. Jo’s journey shows that holding onto where you come from is what helps you navigate where you’re going.

History is also something about how we choose to remember it today.

For generations, October has carried a story of “discovery.” But you cannot discover a land that was already home to tens of millions of people with rich cultures, languages, and complex societies.

Celebrating Columbus glosses over a legacy of violence, forced assimilation, and centuries of hardship. Decolonizing this day means telling the truth. It means shifting the focus away from colonial myths and actively honoring the enduring strength, knowledge, and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples.

Swipe through the carousel to learn why changing this narrative matters and how colonial impacts continue to affect Native communities today.

The Buwaya Wide Collar Coat is a bold fusion of traditional Filipino weaving and modern autumn silhouette.

Woven in Yellow, brown, and orange Inabel fabrics, every thread honors the legendary artistry of the Ilocano weavers from Paoay, carrying forward the legacy of our partner, the late Aunty Charito.

With its textured drape and effortless structure, the Buwaya Coat is designed to layer seamlessly over your favorite cozy look, dressing up for crisp sweater-weather evenings or stepping out for a casual fall stroll.

Sustainable. Cultural. Timeless. When you wear this piece, you wear a story of preservation and artisanal pride.

Mga Kababayan!

FilAm History Month has officially started!

The month of October was chosen because October 18, 1587 marks the earliest recorded arrival of Filipinos in continental North America. A group of “Luzones Indios” arrived in Morro Bay, California, aboard the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Esperanza.

We are celebrating this month to commemorate the rich history, cultural heritage, and vital contributions of Filipino Americans to the United States.

As the second-largest Asian American group in the United States, we, Filipino Americans use this month to ensure that our stories are documented in educational curricula, public history, and national discourse across generations.

We are pleased to announce our collaboration with @houseofgongs and @ewc.arts to present DARAT to our community here in Oahu!

Conceived by artist Lydia Querian and presented by East-West Center for Filipino-American History Month, the performance marks the 120th anniversary of Sakada arrival in Hawaiʻi.

It is an interdisciplinary show that brings Filipino-American History to life through immersive dance, ritual, and Fashion in Honolulu!

Performance Schedule & Location
Dates & Times:
Saturday, October 17 at 6:00 PM
Sunday, October 18 at 3:00 PM

Celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Month Means Protecting Indigenous Lands

This month, we honor the Indigenous communities across the globe!

But celebration requires action. Right now, Philippine Indigenous sovereignty is under threat, especially in Central Luzon, where history is repeating itself for the Aeta community under a high-tech banner: “Pax Silica.”

The Aeta were systematically forced into the mountains over generations.

Today, global demand for semiconductors and mineral extraction treats Aeta ancestral domains as disposable resource zones.

Progress cannot be built on the erasure of First Peoples. Pax Silica is not peace if it destroys Aeta sovereignty.

Indigenous rights are land rights. Land rights are human rights.
