today is the 2 year anniversary of the day i adopted moony and i am struck by thousands of emotions. on September 30th, my worst nightmare came true as i had to make the heartbreaking decision to lay moony to rest. this may come as a surprise as i was never open about moony’s extensive health issues on this account, but she had a potassium deficiency that was rapidly deteriorating her ability to use her muscles at only 2 years old. we treated this condition for as long as possible and she fought as hard as her little body could.

i wanted to make this post in memory of the silliest little cat there ever was. i learned more in this past year with moony than i have in my entire life— it’s crazy how much can be learned from a spoiled little white cat. to know her was to love her. there will never be another cat as special as moony was. she was like a unicorn of sorts. she offered me comfort, joy, and laughter in even the hardest of times. even though she’s gone, i’ll never stop telling everyone i meet about her antics. i think we were destined to meet at my part-time job at the humane society, and that she was meant to teach me a valuable lesson about unconditional compassion in exchange for a warm bed and lots of wet food.
i hope the white fur stays on all of my clothes forever, and that the moon shines as bright as her eyes used to. i hope she looks down on me and smiles— or even lets out a big hiss or an unintelligible meow.
