Excited to have my cyanotype, titled "Grace in Prussian Blue," submitted for the fabulous AlternativePhotography.com World Cyanotype Day! This is from my original conte crayon portrait entitled "Grace." This year's theme was "Global Blueprint: People, Place, and Environment."

To create my cyanotype, I first took a photo of my drawing of Grace, then printed a digital transparency (negative) using my inkjet printer. I mixed my cyanotype chemicals (from the wonderful Jacquard product line), painted it on my substrate (8x8" coldpress watercolor paper) and let it dry overnight, then and set it outside with the transparency laid over the top on one of our recent hi-UV Seattle fall days. I like the texture the cold-press watercolor paper helped to introduce.

Thank you, @alternativephotography_com for this annual creative, community-building collaboration! To see all of the artists'/photographers' beautiful work, check out the site here: https://www.alternativephotography.com/world-cyanotype-day/.

~ BW in B+W ~

How did I forget Bruce? I came across one of my favorite drawings this weekend -- this one of Bruce Willis as John McClane from Die Hard. I did this in a Drawing Hive session more than a year ago. I've always been a fan of BW, and of course loved him in the Die Hard series, but also most of his other movies! 😍

I was organizing my Lightroom folders and realized I forgot to share that my photos from Dunn Gardens and Green Lake, both in Seattle, were installed in King County Metro bus shelters! The Green Lake image is in a bus shelter in the University district at Husky Stadium in Seattle and the Dunn Gardens photo is in Burien, south of Seattle.

The Photographic Center Northwest and King County Metro have an ongoing collaboration called "Show Us Your World," each year, and I submitted a few photos and these were selected. Here is more info: https://pcnw.org/gallery/calls-for-entries/show-us-your-world-with-king-county-metro-and-photographic-center-northwest/.

It took more than a year for these photos to be installed, and I recently went to see the one at Husky Stadium, but it was a busy day and cramped in the shelter, so photos did not turn out well. I have yet to drive down to Burien to see the other photo installed!

Freya's back-to-school portrait! I'd say she's definitely preschool level, judging by her lack of impulse control, high curiosity levels, and difficulty sharing with others. But her motor control is off the charts!

“Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” – Dylan Thomas

This is an experimental monotype that I created from a course with the fabulous artist Ann Rosenthal, inspired by Cy Twombly's art. I've repeatedly encountered Dylan Thomas' villanelle, "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night," over the summer, and it seemed like a natural pairing to a Twombly-inspired print. This print on rice paper was pulled from watercolor, pan pastels and oil-based ink on a Gelli plate.

"Irrepressible You"

Imagine my surprise on my recent morning run, when I saw this amazing new mural under a small bridge in North Seattle (hint: could it be #jimothy ?!) The first three images in the carousel are of the new mural, followed by several other pictures that I've taken of the tunnel art over the last three decades of running through there! The walls of the tunnel's interior are typically tagged or used for kids' chalk drawings, then immediately painted over by the city in a flat municipal gray. 😟 Unfortunately, I don't know who painted this, but I hope to find out to credit the artist/group!

I'm writing an ekphrastic poem based on this scene with the title, "Irrepressible You". Here's a bit of my draft:

"The tucked-away tunnel now looms ahead / I approach its familiar low-hanging belly / its walls thickly coated in a beached-whale gray / where the city smothers the seeds of graffiti."

Sharing my graphite drawing from Kristin Frost's Landscape Drawing class. This is Crater Lake, Oregon. Very challenging, but engrossing and fun. Next-best thing to being there, I guess?! 😊

Freya adores my cat-eye glasses! I have to admit they suit her better. After blindly searching for my missing glasses for a while, this is where I found them 😍.

Thanks Paul Schulenburg Studio and Addie for last night's painting session -- Addie is a fantastic model! My attempt is done with charcoal and a new-to-me "drawing crayon" called Assorted Sauce from Jack Richeson! I had a few too many values going but they are all in shades of gray/black, some warm and some cool. I converted this to b+w because I didn't like the paper color I chose (a light blue 14x16" pastel paper!)...sigh.
