Hi !!! I’m Ellen Rose… (( & if I’m honest I’ve always felt like tattooing goes a bit deeper than just putting ink on skin ))

Most pieces come with something behind them… maybe an inner shift, a story, or just a different version of yourself you’re stepping into 🧚🏻 I think the energy around that matters JUST as much as how the tattoo actually looks 🤷🏼‍♀️

A lil hello because I just realised I haven’t actually shown my face on here in FOREVERRRR <33

Basically life has felt AMAZINGLY full lately, creating some of my fav tattoos EVER… lots of marathon training (@byellenrose) 🏃🏼‍♀️ & then everything else I’ve been working on behind the scenes 🪄

I’ve also been thinking a lot about the kinda work I want to create more of & I’m deffo finding myself drawn towards projects where I get to really create perfect pieces WITH you ✨ florals, ornamentals, animals/sealife, micro-realism, bold blackwork, etc etc 🤌🏼

So with that in mind it’s probs time to remind you that I only have a couple of little gaps left for SEPTEMBER & I’ll be opening up my OCTOBER diary asap 🧚 (who’s waiting?!?!)

SO… if you’ve had an idea floating around in your head for a while… consider this your little nudge to send it my way 🌞✨

Can’t believe I never posted these lil matching swallows for the lovely Molly & Tilly on the grid !!!! I love creating micro-realism tattoos soooo much & this was a LOT of fun xxx

Sooooo pleased to see how this healed flash piece turned out 🥹🖤 I think this was actually my first ever full-back project !!!

Love seeing my healed work !!! Deffo need to photograph (& post 😌) it more so you can all see what everything looks like once it’s properly settled in and been lived in 💅🏼✨

A lil darker than my usual 🧜🏼‍♀️🖤

But I absolutely LOVED getting to create a more gothic, mystical feel with this mermaid !!!

We wanted her to feel feminine without being too soft, with loads of movement through the hair, tail and all the tiny surrounding details ✨

Deffo wouldn’t mind doing more pieces in this kind of direction <3

This piece held a lot of meaning, so I wanted to make every little part feel as thoughtful and perfect as possible 🦋

Seeing how happy she was with it afterwards genuinely meant SO much 🥹🌺

Sometimes a rework doesn’t HAVE to mean completely covering what was there before… 🐅🐅 >>>>

My client came to me wanting to give her older tattoo a new lease of life ✨✨ so rather than trying to completely hide it (not really possible with fineline style anyway) we worked with what was already there & built a whole new piece around it <3

Decided to add the tiger, florals + flowing details to bring everything together & make the original tattoo feel like part of a bigger design 🧚 (OG piece not by me)

Tbh I think sometimes the best solution with an older tattoo isn’t necessarily covering it… it’s often finding the best way to make it belong 🫶🏼 thanks for the trust Megan!!!! 🥰💖

A tiny piece of art… quite literally 👩🏼‍🎨

Absolutely LOVED creating this teeny floral arrangement inside the prettiest little antique ornamental frame 🖼️

We used a mixture of black & grey ink to ensure it heals with some dimension & holds over time 🫶🏼 oh & placement is on the forearm in case you can’t work it out :) :)

So much fun !!!! More lil detailed pieces are always welcomed.

Beginning of a BIGGGGGG one 🖤

Designing this piece was an interesting puzzle bc we weren’t starting with a blank back… there were already several tattoos to work around, so the challenge was figuring out how to make everything feel like it belonged together rather than simply filling every available gap.

Building the composition around the existing pieces, using the snakes, florals + foliage to create flow whilst still leaving enough negative space for the finished piece to breathe ✨

This is only session one & there is LOTS more to come!!! Very excited to watch this one evolve 🪄🪄🪄 taken in Chelmsford, Essex by @ellenrosetattoo

…a lot of it comes down to the things a client would probably never notice 🔍

When I’m designing a piece like this I’m not just thinking about the tattoo itself… I’m thinking about how it’s gonna move with your body 🧑🏽‍🩰

👉🏼 How close is too close?
👉🏼 Should the birds be flying with the arm rather than across it?
👉🏼 How do I make it feel like it belongs there?
👉🏼 How will it look when your arm is actually moving?

Those are the little decisions that make a tattoo feel balanced, natural & full of movement

Also… this placement is an absolute nightmare to photograph 😂 Because it wraps so much around the arm you never quite capture the whole design in one image. HOWEVER… in real life as the arm moves, everything flows exactly as it was designed to ✌🏼

I guess that’s the beauty of creating tattoos… they’re designed to fit a living, breathing person… not just for the photographs 💁🏼‍♀️

Apparently my brain loves starting new flash FAR more than finishing the old ones… 😂 (or maybe I just procrastinate posting them 🤷🏼‍♀️)

A couple of these are finished but have been sat in Procreate for months… and a couple are still sketches that just need a lil final push from me 🤫

So help me have a reason to finish them… which one are you claiming first? 🤍
