Coaching on all things transformational motherhood.❤️‍🔥 | Host of Down the Well🎙️| Founder @sollybaby🫶🏽 | Author of the Agnes series📖🐶

POSTS STORIES REELS

I guess I’m a YouTuber / podcaster / Substacker now. I have been, reluctantly but purposefully, working on a YouTube channel/podcast called Down the Well for the past while.

On the show, I’ll be talking to women about how to create transformational motherhood, how to become matriarchs as we age, and all of my actual thoughts on a lot of things that impact women, especially mothers.

Not like I’m curing cancer here, but it feels important because a lot of us got way too quiet a few years ago, but not because we wanted to be quiet, but because we were afraid of saying what we were really thinking.

And I don’t want to live that way anymore.

I’m not trying to offend anybody. In fact, my earnest desire is to put more love and peace into the world, but for it to be real love and real peace, I have to start with honesty.

Link is in my bio with the first episode and my substack for the why behind all of this. Of course please like, subscribe, comment, share, all the things that make it so other people can find it easily.🙏🏽🤍 by @ellerowley

Well, that’s nice.🫶🏽 Thank you, @entrepreneur.

Lucy graduates in December, turns 18 in January, and leaves in February to serve an 18-month mission in South Carolina for @churchofjesuschrist. WHAT THE?!! Seriously, mind-blowing.

When it hit me that this phase of our family is about to end, my brain went straight to regret: I should’ve taught her this! Why didn’t we do that?! What if she’s not ready for ____?! 🫠🫠🫠

But as I peered over the edge of that never-ending black hole, I thought… hmm, how about let’s not?? And I shifted my gaze up to gratitude.

How lucky am I to have had her under my roof for 18 years?! To have watched her grow from a helpless, colicky babe who depended on me for everything into a powerful, gentle force of a woman who depends on no one but her Maker?! Every phase has held treasures I wouldn’t trade for anything.

How blessed are Jared and I to have had all 4 of these beautiful spirits in our home for all these years? To have laughed, cried, and GROWN so much together. To have weathered so many storms, as a family and on our own, but never alone. To have made so many mistakes and loved each other through every one of them.

It’s all so good. Even in the messiness. Especially in the messiness. That’s where we learned the most, loved the most, and grew the most.

It was never a parenting game to be won. It was always an adventure to be taken together.

So I’m soaking up these last few months with all of us under one roof (or one tent… actually two tents, because we like each other but we also like our space ⛺️⛺️). by @ellerowley

Still alive over here.🌞 Just enjoying a mostly offline summer and more dahlias and blackberries than we know what to do with.

I used to try to grow all of the things, all of the time (the blessing + curse of the year-round growing season here). After a few years, I got tired of always feeling behind and worrying about what was dying and what needed pruning or replacing. I finally asked the (obvious) question, “Who am I doing all of this for?” Turns out nobody else cared, but me, but I’d gotten caught up in a self-imposed should.

So I stopped trying to grow all the things anxiously and instead started growing a few things joyfully. Turns out a smaller garden can produce a sweeter harvest.

Ik, ik, feels like a metaphor. Didn’t even mean to do that, but you can’t stop the garden from teaching. by @ellerowley

3 Types of Caregivers in Motherhood (& life!): Which One Are You? | Find out in this episode.

Comment to get the 🔗.

The Caregiver might be the most neglected archetype and the most misapplied today, which is tragic because it might also be the most fundamental to human flourishing. The Caregiver represents how we nurture and care for ourselves, others, the world, and all of life.

The Caregiver is at the heart of the Mother and so much more complex and expansive than I previously believed.

This episode will help you determine what level you are at in your “caregiving journey” and offers guidance (and a few warnings) for how to develop into the next level of caregiving.

Oh, how I love the Caregiver. Hope you find as much inspiration in these ideas as I have.❤️‍🔥 by @ellerowley

1. Can’t get over that darling face.
2. PEACHES 🍑 they finally grew! So happy to know we can grow delicious (though small) peaches in San Diego. Wish I could bring you one.
3-5. Sonoma & Berkeley trip with dear friends last weekend. First time eating at @chezpanisse thanks to @brad.m.roberts and Shanda and their friend Becca who is interning there and is the coolest mother turning matriarch I’ve met in a long time!
5. Lu has been doing an art internship and I’m constantly blown away.
6. Must-read by Freya India. She’s the maiden guide for the upcoming generation.
7. Cleaning the church on a Saturday morning and feeling lit.🔥Jk, I don’t even know what that means. But I sure love my Solly.
8. Sweet peas from the garden for my last Down the Well episode (have you ever noticed that I change out the flowers from my garden in every episode? 📺 Maybe more proud of that than the actual show.) that smell SO GOOD they should be illegal.
9. New kittens!😻😻
10. Hazel’s horses🐴 - this one for Aunt Liz for Aunt’s Day.
11. Lu + Davin at prom. CUTE.💘
12. Just felt like I should balance out this post by letting you all know that two of our toilets 🚽 overflowed from the bottom last week. It was gross. by @ellerowley

Happy Mother’s Day to the matriarchs who made us.🤍

“You can fall here.
We are a quilt set to catch you.”
- Carol Lynn Pearson

Thinking today about the women who caught me long before I knew their names. The mothers and grandmothers whose love, sacrifice, endurance, and faith became the ground beneath me.

May their sacrifices continue to be made sacred by the lives we live and in all we give life to. by @ellerowley

New episode out now!

Reasons not to go > reasons to go, but we threw caution to the wind and now I can’t even remember why I resisted. Such an incredible 9 days of London + a dash of NYC with @andreafaulknerwilliams celebrating 40 years and 20 years of friendship.✨

If you’d like the unfiltered / ridiculous version of the trip, it is in my highlights.🥴 by @ellerowley

It turns out my garden holds all of the secrets to life so I’ve decided to start documenting them. Here are 5 I learned this past Saturday:

1. Small weeds become big problems.🌾 Uproot the weeds in life while they’re small and haven’t yet taken root. Bigger weeds = bigger problems. This tree with roots to the center of the earth started as a little weed we didn’t pay attention to. If something isn’t serving you in your life, don’t wait. Uproot it now.

2. Mediocrity is a space stealer. The mid, mediocre you are allowing in your life is robbing you of your best of life. I kept the nasturtiums going (a trailing flower that is edible) because they’re easy to grow and moderately pretty IMO, but Jared suggested we pull them to make room for more dahlias - a flower I love. I didn’t realize until we pulled them, how much space they were taking up (and how many 🐌 they were harboring!).

3. Make hay while the sun is shining. Saturday provided the perfect conditions to garden so we worked all day into the evening. If we’d waited another day, it would’ve rained on us. When you’re feeling good and have the energy - don’t hold back. Forget balance and go hard while the sun is shining.🌞

4. Make room for whimsy✨ - that’s where the magic happens!! Hazel begged for these lady bugs 🐞 at the garden center and I hesitated at first, but releasing them was by far the most memorable part of the day.

5. Do what you love and the kids will follow. My youngest was complaining about weeding without gloves because she was scared of the many bugs in the dirt. Before I could respond, my 17 year old said, “That’s how I used to feel in the garden, but after a while you give into it and then you start having fun.” I told her my work is done - she’s officially an adult.✅ by @ellerowley

Maiden —> Mother —> Matriarch: (reclaiming) the map that no one gave us. If you only listen to one episode of Down the Well, I hope it’s this one.❤️‍🔥
