Speech

This is a bittersweet goodbye to the activity I had called home for the last 4 (technically 5) years. I never knew that an extracurricular could change someone’s life, but it did. I have met some of my best friends at meets and got closer with so many people that I would have never expected to.

To any of my teammates, new or old, thank you. You have seen me at my best and my worst. Thank you for always being there, even if I’m crying before district awards had even started. You guys are the reason that this is an amazing thing to be a part of. You will do wonderful things and it was so special to see you grow into great speakers.

To the friends I had made along the way. Speech is never just about the medals but the memories you make while getting them. I love you, each and every one of you. It’s hard to say goodbye when I know it’s the last time competing not just against but also with you all. Sorry if I hated you for the first year of knowing you (*cough* Morgan). I wouldn’t trade the relationships I made for the world.

To my coaches, who won’t see this until I graduate and then they can follow me. Thank you for the countless hours you have spent with me. Thank you for forcing me to only practice 1 time the night before a meet. Thank you for putting up with all my crazy ideas, like completely switching my poetry program over halfway through the season. Thank you believing in me when I couldn’t believe in myself.
