I didn't want to be the girl who was always at home curled up on the sofa watching tv.

I wanted to be the girl who could spontaneously go out for drinks with her partner.

The girl who eats out at different restaurants every week.

The girl who actually has new clothes.

The girl who's always doing something different.

The girl who travels to new, exotic locations regularly.

But instead, I was the girl who couldn't afford it.

And that felt sh*t.

But I realised that I could either stay on the sofa watching TV, or I could get up off my 🍑 and do something to change my situation.

9 months later and I'm still unemployed...

Because life is too short to live somewhere you don't like, or work a job that leaves you unfulfilled, or feel like you're only truly living when you have time off.

Okay so a little backstory:

I was a waitress for over 6 years. Late nights, early mornings, long shifts on my feet, counting my tips at the end of the night to see if I could afford to go out with my friends.

And the whole time I kept thinking that there must be more to life than this cycle of work-eat-sleep-repeat.

Now I'm filming for hotels and working with brands, and honestly I still have moments where I think "wait, is this actually my job?"

I didn't have a fancy camera or a big following. I just started posting, and figured it out as I went (still figuring it out, tbh).

So if you're stuck in a job that's wearing you down and you're wondering if there's something else out there, there is.

Start small, start messy, but just start 💙

Maybe you can, but I couldn't. So I quit.

And honestly, why should I?

Because if I can make money while actually having time to enjoy my life and keep up with family & friends, travel regularly and have hobbies...

Then why would I settle for anything less?

I decided that it was time to put myself, my goals and my dreams first, and live the life that I want all year round, not just on holiday.

Because sometimes it really doesn't feel like a flex

A lot of times it feels stressful, complicated and overwhelming

But it also feels SO worth it.

Because now I'm building a life and business that gives me options, and let's me put my goals and my dreams first.

Because now I have the freedom to choose what my days look like and how and where I want to spend them.

That was me.

When I worked as a waitress I would be getting up early for shifts, coming home late from work, and the rest of the time I just spent in recovery mode.

Honestly the pay wasn't bad. But I didn't want to spend my life missing out on things because I had a shift or because I was recovering from one.

I quit because I wanted to make the most of my life all the time, not just when I was on holiday.

I thought quitting my waitressing job and working for myself would solve everything..

But honestly, it has probably been one of the most stressful things I've ever done

And that's mainly because I quit my job without actually having an income to fall back on.

I quit with nothing but hope, determination and a bit of delusion that it would all work out 😅

Yes I have doubted myself

yes I have applied for hundreds of "proper/normal jobs" in the meantime when I slipped into panic mode

yes I have stressed way too much about what other people would think about this decision

But I'm also so happy that I made this decision. Because now I can start building the life that I have dreamed about for SO LONG.

The life of flexibility, freedom & choice. Where I get to decide what everyday looks like. I get to travel whenever I want, and never have to worry about what all those career gaps look like on my CV!

I wouldn't necessarily recommend quitting your job without a backup income, but I would 100% recommend chasing your goals and your dream life! 💙 by @elliecreates.ugc
