One year ago today I stepped into the adventure of a lifetime. There’s so many things I could say, about the places I saw, the people I got to love, the lessons I learned, and the memories I made. Maybe, at some point I will, but for today all I want to say is thank you.

Thank you to every. single. person. Thank you to those I so luckily got to connect with, those I got to laugh with, those I was lucky enough to love, and those who gave me unwavering love and support right back.

Thank you to Rotary for supporting me and allowing me to participate in this unforgettable journey. To all the Rotarians who believed in me, and to RYLA, the place that first sparked my love for this amazing organization.

Thank you to those of you here in the states who followed every moment of my exchange. To those who sent messages, cards, or just thoughts of encouragement my way, I appreciate it all more than I’ll ever be able to express.

The hardest part of my journey has by far been the days since I’ve returned. There was no greater joy than reconnecting with my family and friends. However, there is no greater struggle than feeling so misunderstood and lost in the place where I’d always thrived. Thank you to everyone who has listened to my struggles and supported in any way they could.

All in all, I will never be able to adequately express my gratitude and love for this program, the people involved, those I’ve met, and those who have supported me!!! This past year was not without its struggles, tears, loneliness, and loss. Yet, when asked if I could rewind and do it all over again, would I? The answer is yes, in every lifetime.

Change is scary but nothing is scarier than looking back and thinking, I wish I would’ve… Even if it doesn’t go the way you planned, you will have learned and grown. If you take anything from this, from the bottom of my heart, I urge you to chase your dreams!!! Advocate for yourself, be the author of YOUR life, and at the end of the day, do it all with love in your heart!
