Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about how much of casting lives in the space between people. The tension. The listening. The contradictions. The thing an actor brings to a role that suddenly makes the entire world of a piece simultaneously crack open and yet, click into focus. I’m drawn to work that feels lived in, behavior-first, emotionally specific, and just a little dangerous. The kind of performances that keep unfolding in the subtext. Whether it’s indie film, theatre, or new work development, I care deeply about building actor-first rooms and ensembles that feel surprising, human, and alive. LGBTQIA+ actors encouraged to submit for the role of… ERIC/NICK *actor plays both roles ERIC: Seen in the past. Youngest of the Camden siblings. Sensitive, intelligent, funny, restless, and deeply troubled, wrestling with his identity. He longs to escape the world he grew up in while struggling with severe depression and a complicated but deeply felt relationship with his family. He eventually moves to New York and is presumed killed on September 11, 2001. NICK: In the present (2011). A bartender who looks uncannily like Eric. Gay, self-assured, quick-witted, charismatic, irreverent, and always trying to move forward. Nick has survived significant trauma of his own and built a loving life with his longtime partner, Parker. He uses humor to keep painful parts of his past at a distance, but possesses tremendous empathy beneath his guarded exterior. As he becomes entangled with Eric’s grieving family, he is forced to confront questions of his own identity, belonging, family, and what it means to persevere without erasing where he came from. ***These are two distinct but intentionally interconnected characters. Seeking an actor with strong emotional range, grounded comedic instincts, and the ability to move effortlessly between humor and high emotional stakes. Eric speaks with a stronger Southern dialect; Nick’s accent is much less pronounced.
