These shadow figures represent the Ibeyí, the divine twins within Cuban cosmology. They hold the paradox of twinhood, to be bound and divided at the same time. Titled One to Bind and One to Break, the sculptures stand over seven feet tall within 19th century French Gothic niches, greeting visitors at the entrance of the Twin Chapel. They mirror one another while reflecting the dualities embedded in Cuban identity and its syncretism.

El Monte (The Wilderness) is the culmination of two years of the most challenging and meaningful work we’ve ever done. For those unfamiliar—Lydia Cabrera was a Cuban ethnographer who documented Afro-Cuban religions on the island. Our exhibition takes its name from her book, a text that preserved traditions once discarded and discouraged, becoming a source of inspiration for future generations.

What began as telling the story of El Monte became a journey inward, realizing through this process that El Monte was the framework to share our own journey; it became our wilderness, a place tucked away deep inside us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As we grow older, a natural distance occurs between where we come from and where we’re going. This work reminded us that what we inherit isn’t always ours to choose, but like nature, we find ways to adapt, transform, and heal.

There’s a Cuban saying that goes “one tree does not make a forest.” It takes many trees. To everyone who helped bring this to life, thank you. We never take for granted any opportunity we have to grow.

TIME’s first ever all Spanish cover.

Arguably, one of the most influential pop artists of our time whose fusion of Latin genres in music have broken down barriers right through mainstream media, all while challenging traditional notions of masculinity within a culture oftentimes plagued with machismo.

Gracias @dilysng for the opportunity to art direct and photograph this project, our first cover— bringing all the elements of painterly romanticism and Caribbean spirituality that makes our work. And thank you to our wonderful team!

For the cover of ELLE Magazine (@elleusa), twin artist duo Elliot & Erick Jiménez (@elliotanderick) shot Karol G (@karolg). The twins leaned on their signature painterly photography aesthetic to create a universe that encapsulated Karol. The universe was informed by magical realism, a literary and artistic style that blends everyday reality with fantastical, dreamlike elements treated as if they were perfectly ordinary.

They were especially interested in Gabriel García Márquez, the Colombian novelist widely considered the father of magical realism. Best known for “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” Márquez treated extraordinary events, ghosts, prophecies, characters who live for centuries, as unremarkable facts of daily life, blurring the line between the real and the fantastical. That same sensibility runs through the shoot: Karol G moves through scenes that feel mystical and dreamlike, yet are treated with the same ease and gravity as reality itself. by @elliotanderick

El Monte closes this Sunday at @pamm!

At both the entrance and exit of the exhibition sits el pequeño gigante (the Little Giant).

The title comes from Elegguá, often depicted as a small child. Despite his size, he holds immense power over fate, crossroads, and opportunity. The space was designed so viewers encounter their own crossroads and choose a direction, left or right. Much like in life, we move forward without fully knowing where a path will lead. Every decision opens a different road, each shaping us differently.

Housed inside a found 19th-century European tabernacle, the work draws on the blue and red angels that were already painted inside its doors, colors that recall the Ibeyí, the divine twins, reflecting us as narrators within the story. Inside, a shadow figure appears through floating eyes and wax-covered hands holding two lit candles.
