Nighthawks by Edward Hopper.

Late-night diner. Empty streets. A few people who don’t know each other, together in the quiet. I’ve been the person sitting at the counter several times in my life — new city, no names to call, low hum of being somewhere unfamiliar. Edward Hopper understood something deep about that kind of solitude. For me, it’s a visceral reaction to admire his painting, Nighthawks. Clean geometric lines. Cold fluorescent lighting against a dark city backdrop. Quiet, introspective diners. All comes together to form the portrait of American solitude. And I’ll always feel close to that history of finding strange comfort in the after-hours stillness.

Finally posting about the Big Tex Backyard Ultra put on by @trailracingovertexas. I dragged myself through 11 yards to make 45.76 miles! I was far from the last runner standing, but happy to be around an amazing group like that.

This was event was awesome and worth every bit of pain & exhaustion 😂. Special thank you to my awesome wife @a.ocay.la who kept me alive through all of it. The Webers also showed up big time to cheer me on and feed me Sonic slushes - which tasted like heaven after all that trail running 😋

Happy birthday to my Dad! Since I was a kid he’s been taking me to baseball games, teaching me the ins & outs.

One of the big lessons: the moment your head is out of the game is the moment the ball will get hit your way. Always be ready.

August in Whitefish Montana! Couldn’t have asked for a better spot to relax, unwind, and disconnect with my amazing wife @a.ocay.la ❤️

We spent the days reading books, journaling, and taking the deliberate time to reflect on all the things that matter most to us. And also… eating chocolate, drinking coffee, and picking the apples growing all around Orchard Point 🍏

Continuing the look back on 2024, it wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the Northern Lights we saw in Lapland, Finland 🇫🇮

This was a truly awesome experience of natural beauty in Ivalo. I didn’t have the best camera equipment, and I was too awestruck to set up any good iPhone shots 😅. But luckily some of the other great people in our Flashpack group captured amazing shots.

Now that it’s December, I’ve motivated myself to catch up all of 2024’s trips here on IG. And @a.ocay.la and I have taken some awesome trips! Starting with Grand Canyon in March - backcountry camping with Julio and Haley. 4 days, 3 nights and the opportunity to fully disconnect - couldn’t ask for more…

One week ago I set a new personal record for the half marathon at 1:31! Breaking the 7-minute mile barrier felt incredible. Consistent hard work and discipline paid off big time. It also doesn’t hurt when the weather is awesome and the crowd at the Houston Marathon is electric! 💪

🏁 Shout out to @texasfreedomrunners for putting on a great race on Veterans Day. I didn’t think I would get anywhere near a time of 1:35:51 in the Half Marathon, but I’m inclined to believe Strava when it tells me I PR’d! Weather was perfect for a run in Fort Worth and my wife’s unwavering support @a.ocay.la makes it even better!
