|| the inherited truth ||

conviction has a peculiar way of disguising its origins.

within our belief systems, assumptions become principles. repetition becomes evidence. familiarity begins to resemble truth.

confirmation bias can make even the most fragile convictions feel unquestionable.

and somewhere between perception and critical thinking lies an uncomfortable possibility:

what we defend most fiercely may be what we’ve examined the least. by @ellisonmfernandes

|| arrogance of momentum ||

we have become remarkably comfortable treating urgency as a measure of importance.

every destination demands our attention, every delay feels like a personal defeat and the instinct to slow down is increasingly mistaken for hesitation.

strange how much faith we place in the next moment, as though it owes us an arrival.

|| fragments of an unfinished world ||

even the most familiar environments resist the illusion of completion. spaces evolve, structures change and ordinary details exist outside the narratives we construct around them.

what appears disconnected may simply reflect the limitations of how we organise perception.

not everything needs to be a common story to deserve attention.

|| the quiet architecture of ruin ||

industrial decay rarely announces itself as a defining moment. it accumulates through exposure, changing conditions and the gradual erosion of what once appeared permanent.

what remains visible is often mistaken for what remains intact.

some of the most revealing changes occur long before anyone considers them significant.

|| unexamined ordinary ||

we spend so much of our lives looking ahead that the ground beneath us becomes an unquestioned certainty.

familiarity has a strange way of making ordinary surroundings invisible, even when they remain within our immediate awareness.

perhaps what escapes our attention isn’t always hidden. sometimes we’ve simply stopped looking.

|| a study in impermanence ||

ordinary things often exist beyond the purposes we assign to them, occupying a space between recognition and interpretation.

what appears permanent may be temporary. what seems insignificant may outlast the structures surrounding it.

time does not distinguish between what we consider important and what we overlook.

|| fragility of precaution ||

we place extraordinary confidence in boundaries, warnings and the structures designed to keep uncertainty at a distance.

yet protection and security are not necessarily the same thing. one can exist visibly while the other remains an assumption.

sometimes the most reassuring thing in sight is also a reminder of what remains beyond our control. black and white photograph by visual artist Ellison M. || return of the emissary ||

not every disappearance marks the end of an existence.

in the natural world, survival is often defined by adaptation, regeneration and the instinct to withdraw. what appears to be absence may simply be a form of existence no longer available to observation.

the gecko understands what perception often fails to recognise.

visibility is not proof of presence.

|| the deception of stillness ||

what appears motionless and lifeless can still carry evidence of growth, adaptation and time. like bare tree branches silhouetted against the darkness, their intricate network of natural patterns reveals a history shaped by forces that often go unnoticed. the eye recognises the silhouette before it understands the structure. by @ellisonmfernandes

|| the architecture of entrapment ||

not every structure is built to protect.

some are engineered through instinct, patience and quiet mathematics of survival.

what appears fragile can still determine what escapes. by @ellisonmfernandes

|| the weight of years ||

time doesn’t always destroy what it touches.

sometimes it twists things beyond recognition and calls it survival.

|| nature’s defiance ||

civilisation laid boundaries.

life never agreed to them.

|| residual danger ||

we built warnings for dangers we understood.

then became the very thing we failed to recognise.

|| fractured foundations ||

stability is often just deterioration we haven’t noticed yet.

|| the failure of order ||

we built barriers to define what could be crossed.

never questioning how easily the barriers themselves could fall.

|| the last entanglement ||

strip away everything the once defined existence.

what remains was never dependent on it. high-contrast black-and-white photograph by visual artist Ellison M. Fernandes of a thick, gnarled tree trunk with twisted wood, rough bark and small leafy shoots emerging from its weathered surface. by @ellisonmfernandes

|| transience ||

everything that enters our lives eventually disappears.

nature reminds us that nothing is permanent. every journey, every moment, every living thing is simply passing through. the passage of time is inevitable, but perhaps the beauty of existence lies in learning to appreciate what is here before is it gone. by @ellisonmfernandes

|| the emissary ||

some things must be severed before they can regenerate.

the gecko knows this by instinct - what is lost is not always meant to remain lost. the old form does not follow you into what comes next.

it remains behind – still believing it was you.

the emissary appears when there is nothing left to mourn. by @ellisonmfernandes

|| remains of an arrangement ||

you can leave each other and somehow still be tangled in the same mess. all that distance, all that noise, all that empty space where something used to be.

what’s left when it’s actually over? black and white abstract artwork with heavy black shapes cutting through rough, broken textures and pale open areas. the forms overlap and tangle across the piece. by @ellisonmfernandes
