yesterday afternoon, our beautiful savior welcomed to heaven a pretty special person. everyone my pappy encountered was met with the contagious love and laughter he shared. I don’t think any of us have words to describe what pappy meant to us, but I know we all would say we’re grateful for every moment shared and memory made.

pappy, I hope you and gram are singing with the angels. and maybe there’s a toy piano up there, too. by @ellsiepelter

i read something this week that said “I wonder if we stop to think that in our efforts to make the gospel message ‘attractive’ we are drawing a curtain across the face of Jesus in His humiliation? The only one who can make Him attractive is the Holy Spirit.”

in the world’s eyes, He was unremarkable. there was nothing physically attractive about Jesus. no outward beauty that would make us desire Him (Isaiah 53:2). still, He was perfect. and still, we feel the need to beautify the Gospel when we present it to people.

why?

is there not enough beauty in the sight of a faithful man weeping in the dirt of a garden envisioning the agony He was about to endure and still choosing us anyway?

is there not enough beauty in the knowing that a sinless man embodied our sin and shame was manually pinned to the wood?

if we alter the cross in hopes to beautify it, we strip the most precious story from its own glory. we are saying that Jesus dying on the cross wasn’t beautiful enough on its own.

there is no greater attraction than the sight of a man who loved us enough to be humiliated for us. by @ellsiepelter
