This is a side of my story I don’t often share. 🤍

I didn’t become a dietitian because I loved healthy eating.

I became one because I was scared.

Scared of getting sick. Scared my acne would never improve. Scared my IBS would always control my life.

I thought if I could just eat “perfectly”, I’d finally be okay.

Turns out, becoming a dietitian didn’t give me the perfect diet.

It gave me something much more valuable... perspective.

Now, I know that nutrition isn’t about chasing perfection. It’s about nourishing your body, enjoying your life, and letting go of the guilt and fear that so many of us carry around food.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by nutrition advice online, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too. 💚 by @ellsnutrition

Very proud to share that @ufitsingapore Nutrition Service has been recognised in the Top Five in the Best Nutritionist category in the Expat Living Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 🎉

Last year we were also recognised in this category, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the service continue to grow.

What makes this year especially meaningful is that it reflects the work of the team. Special thanks to @nourish_byalice & @kesslyn_hyl for being a part of it.

Thank you to everyone who trusts us with their health and to those who voted for us. by @ellsnutrition

The HYROX poop drama is a good reminder that race-day fuelling is about more than just what you eat the morning of the event. 💩

A few extra things worth knowing:

1. Keep pre-race meals familiar. High-fat meals, large amounts of fibre and spicy foods can increase GI symptoms in some athletes, particularly close to exercise. Individual tolerance matters.
2. Prioritise hydration in the days before. Especially in Singapore’s heat and humidity. Don’t wait until race morning to catch up. Drink consistently throughout the day and arrive at the start line well hydrated.
3. Practise your fuelling strategy. HYROX takes around 90 minutes for many athletes, but finishing times vary considerably. Prioritise adequate carbohydrate intake in the 24–48 hours before racing, alongside a familiar pre-race meal. If you’re taking over two hours, your carbohydrate strategy during the race may also need consideration.

Your gut is trainable, but race day is not the time to experiment.

Save this for your next HYROX and send it to your doubles partner. by @ellsnutrition

Ya Kun, you have my heart. Some things just never get old. 🇸🇬 by @ellsnutrition

You probably don’t need more nutrition information.

You need help figuring out which information actually matters for you, what to ignore, and how to turn it into something you can realistically do.
There is endless nutrition advice online.

More isn’t always better.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing what to do. It’s knowing where to start.

I said what I said. 👀

Don’t agree? I wanna hear it in the comments.

But because nutrition is rarely as black and white as Instagram makes it seem, here is the NUANCE 👇

🍞 CARBS
I’m not saying you need to eat loads of carbs.
I’m saying they’re an important fuel source, especially if you’re active. The more you train, the more relevant they become.
And cutting them out to get leaner isn’t a magic solution. Fat loss comes down to energy balance.

💧 ELECTROLYTES
You do not need electrolytes in every bottle of water.
For most everyday activity, water + your normal diet are absolutely fine.
BUT if you’re sweating heavily, training for a long time, exercising outside in Singapore’s heat, or losing a lot of fluid through illness, they can have a place.
You need to replace what you’re losing, not add more just because it’s marketed as “better hydration”.

🥫 PROCESSED FOOD
“Processed” does not automatically mean bad.
There is research linking higher intakes of some ultra-processed foods with poorer health outcomes, and we shouldn’t ignore that.
But there’s a big difference between encouraging a balanced diet with fewer ultra-processed foods and making people scared of anything that comes in a packet.
Context matters.

🍕 THE 80/20 RULE
The 80/20 rule isn’t a literal rule.
You don’t need to eat perfectly, and you don’t need to justify every pizza or dessert by calling it your “20%”.
Your overall diet matters far more than one meal.

Food is fuel, but it’s also part of living your life.
Eat well. Fuel yourself properly. Enjoy your food.

And please stop being scared of every ingredient you see on social media.

Phil’s camera roll archives… life lately, through his lens 🤍 all the real, unedited and unfiltered moments.

Recently discovered a little collection of moments on his camera roll, many I didn’t even know were being captured ❤️

Something I love is having someone by my side who sees a beautiful moment and wants to save it.

I enjoy sharing and also seeing more of the human side of life on social media, especially in our current world.

And maybe it is possible to accept yourself more fully in all the angles, lighting and off guard moments, knowing that the eyes looking back at you are full of love? @_philstrong ❤️

So this is a tiny snippet of my life lately, through someone else’s lens.

Thank you Phil, my Superman 🤍 by @ellsnutrition

$🔥 CLIENT SPOTLIGHT 🔥 Meet Smitha. She first came to UFIT after rotator cuff surgery, unable to lift even 2kg. Her goal: rebuild her strength and improve her body composition, pain-free.🔥 Training consistently, Smitha now benches 10kg DBs, lat pulldowns 42kg and lateral raises 5kg, all with no pain!🤯 She’s gone from an empty bar to squatting 55kg, what an improvement!💪 Then came a curveball: a bad fall and a hip fracture. Her doctor said 3 months out, but thanks to the strong base she’d built, Smitha was back squatting and training in just 6 weeks.🙌 Well done, Smitha, we are so proud of you.😊 Meet the incredible team behind Smitha’s journey: UFIT Coach Charmaine and Dietitian Ellie! This is our Circle of Care in action.❤️ by @ellsnutrition$

Do you actually need a greens powder? 🌱

75+ ingredients might look impressive on paper, but more doesn’t automatically mean better.

To be fair to AG1, they state that their product isn’t a meal replacement and doesn’t replace a healthy, balanced diet. But do consumers fully appreciate or read that disclaimer, when a product is marketed with so many ingredients and potential benefits? 🤔

At the end of the day, supplements are the frosting, not the cake. 🍰

My biggest concern is consumers may get the impression that taking a greens powder means you’re off the hook for eating more of your vegetables. You’re not.

If you want one as an additional supplement and are happy with the cost, that’s a valid choice. But personally, I’d prioritise a balanced diet and targeted supplements where there’s a clear reason to take them.

I’d rather spend my money on my food shop. 🥦

Oh, and if it’s red, that doesn’t automatically make it any better 👀❤️

Would you spend your money on one?

Disclosure: This product was gifted to me by AG1. These are my independent professional views. by @ellsnutrition

I think my definition of “healthy” has changed a lot over the years.

I used to put far more emphasis on how my body looked.

Now, I care much more about being strong, well-fuelled, having strong bones, having energy, enjoying food and feeling comfortable in my body.

And honestly, I don’t always get it right.

I don’t always hit my protein or fibre target. I have days where I eat more, less, differently or simply because I fancy something.

And I’m still a dietitian.

Because health isn’t about getting every decision right. It’s about building a relationship with food and your body that actually allows you to live your life.

So, kinda chic to have muscle.
Kinda chic to eat enough.
Kinda chic to enjoy food.
Kinda chic to love your body at any size.

And maybe most importantly, kinda chic to care more about what your body can do than what it looks like. by @ellsnutrition
